UT Ternate and Balai Bahasa Collaborated in Education and Languages

Ternate, May 9, 2025 — Universitas Terbuka (UT) Ternate has established a strategic partnership with the Language Center of North Maluku Province, an institution under the auspices of the Language Development and Fostering Agency, in order to strengthen the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education (education, research, and community service). 

The signing ceremony of this cooperation agreement took place at the UT Ternate Office on Friday, May 9, 2025. The event was directly attended by the Head of the Language Center of North Maluku Province, Nukman, S.S., M.Hum., and the Director of UT Ternate, Dr. Muhlis Hafel, M.Si., who officially signed the partnership document. Also witnessing the activity were the Head of Administration and Marketing Subdivision of the Language Center, Iwan Setiyawan Prambudi, S.Kom., M.M., and the Registration and Testing Manager of UT Ternate, Azizah Nur Mujahidah, S.Pd., M.Pd. 

In his remarks, Nukman emphasized that this collaboration is a concrete step to expand the reach of fostering and preserving the Indonesian language, especially within the academic environment and the community. “The Indonesian language is the identity and unifying force of the nation. This synergy is very important to maintain its function so that it remains strong and relevant in the global era,” he stated. 

Meanwhile, Dr. Muhlis Hafel highlighted the importance of cross-institutional collaboration in strengthening the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. “We are ready to implement this cooperation concretely through collaborative research, language training, the development of language-based teaching materials, as well as academic and community service activities,” he affirmed. 

He also added that UT Ternate will make this collaboration a part of its ongoing efforts to support education up to higher levels, including opportunities for further studies up to the doctoral (S3) program. “In the future, if there are language needs, we will continue to coordinate with the central Study Programs to support their implementation,” added Dr. Muhlis. 

This cooperation includes various programs such as: 

  1. Language workshops and training, 
  1. Joint research in the fields of language and literacy, 
  1. Development of Indonesian language-based teaching materials, 
  1. Improvement of academic and public literacy in North Maluku. 

Through this collaboration, UT Ternate and the Language Center of North Maluku Province hope to make a real contribution to the preservation of the Indonesian language, the improvement of the quality of higher education, and community empowerment through sustainable language-based approaches.
