Mataram Expands Partnerships to Broaden Access to Higher Education in NTB

Amid increasingly busy lifestyles, pursuing higher education remains a challenge for many in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Addressing this gap, Universitas Terbuka (UT) Mataram is shifting its approach—from simple outreach to building strategic partnerships that bring education closer to the community.

Led by Director Ronny Basista, UT Mataram is prioritizing collaboration with local governments and social organizations to widen access, particularly for civil servants and communities without undergraduate degrees. These partnerships aim to provide flexible and relevant learning opportunities tailored to local needs.

The university is also expanding cooperation with Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), recognizing their potential to reach large numbers of students. UT’s flexible distance learning system allows santri to continue their education without leaving their daily responsibilities.

By leveraging community networks and institutional partnerships, UT Mataram is fostering a more inclusive model of higher education—one that is accessible to all, regardless of background.

This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality and inclusive education, opening new pathways for individuals who previously lacked access and contributing to the long-term development of human resources in NTB.
