Palangkaraya – Universitas Terbuka (UT) Palangka Raya successfully held the 2025 Tutor Training aimed at standardizing perceptions and enhancing the competency of prospective tutors to support distance learning services. This strategic activity took place over three days, from September 25-27, 2025, at Luwansa Hotel Palangka Raya.
In his speech, the Director of UT Palangkaraya, Hariyadi, S.P., M.P., emphasized that this training is a form of UT’s commitment to maintaining the quality of academic services, especially in the Central Kalimantan region. As is known, UT employs a different learning method from other conventional universities, namely Open and Distance Higher Education (PTJJ). Therefore, to ensure effective knowledge transfer through this system, UT conducts training and standardizes the perception of the requirements that every tutor must meet.
“The hope is that the tutors can act as professional facilitators, capable of fostering the spirit of independent learning in students, and building a supportive learning environment. With uniform competency, the quality of UT Palangka Raya graduates is believed to become increasingly excellent and competitive,” said the Director of UT Palangka Raya.
This tutor training is not just a routine agenda; it aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education). By increasing tutor competency, UT helps ensure that every student, including those in remote areas of Central Kalimantan, has access to education that is inclusive, equitable, and high-quality.
Furthermore, UT’s spirit in expanding access to education also supports SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), where the presence of distance learning provides educational opportunities for people limited by distance, time, or economic conditions.
As a state university that implements the Distance Learning (PJJ) system, Universitas Terbuka has advantages over conventional universities. The flexibility of learning allows students to manage their study time according to their conditions, even while working. This opens up great opportunities for the wider community to still pursue higher education, unhindered by location or age.
In addition to flexibility, UT also prioritizes academic quality through various training programs for tutors, lecturers, and educational staff. This aligns with UT’s mission to ensure that PJJ is not just about access but also about quality equal to face-to-face learning.
With the successful execution of the 2025 Tutor Training, UT Palangka Raya is not only strengthening the quality of learning but also contributing tangibly to community development in Central Kalimantan. This effort is a real step by UT in supporting the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision by producing highly educated generations ready to compete globally. Through educational innovation and consistent quality maintenance, Universitas Terbuka proves itself to be an inclusive, adaptive, and relevant university for the demands of the times.
