UT Commemorates Pancasila Day, Reaffirming National Ideals in the Digital Age

Tangerang Selatan, June 2, 2025 – Universitas Terbuka (UT) held a solemn ceremony to commemorate the 2025 Pancasila Day on Monday, June 2, 2025, at the Central UT Library courtyard in Pondok Cabe, South Tangerang. The dignified event was attended by university leaders, lecturers, and educational staff from the Central UT campus.

The Rector of UT, Dr. Mohamad Yunus, S.S., M.A., served as the ceremony’s supervisor. In his address, he delivered the official speech from the Head of the Agency for Pancasila Ideology Development (BPIP) of Indonesia, which emphasized the importance of making Pancasila a guiding principle for nation-building.

“Pancasila Day is not just an annual ceremony, but a moment to reaffirm our commitment to the noble values that form the foundation of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” stated the Rector while reading the official BPIP remarks.

This year’s commemoration theme was “Strengthening Pancasila Ideology Towards a Great Indonesia.” This theme is highly relevant to the nation’s current trajectory towards Golden Indonesia 2045, including within open and distance higher education environments like UT.

Pancasila as a Moral Compass for Progress

In the speech he read, the Rector stressed that progress in development, technology, and economy must remain rooted in the nation’s ideological values. “Economic progress without the foundation of Pancasila values can lead to inequality. Technological advancement without the moral guidance of Pancasila can lead the nation to dehumanization,” he quoted from the BPIP’s address.

UT, as a state university committed to open and distance higher education access, plays a strategic role in embodying Pancasila values, especially in education and digital transformation.

“Schools and universities must be the birthplace of generations who are intellectually smart, strong in character, and firm in moral integrity,” said the Rector, quoting the BPIP Head’s speech, which highlighted the importance of ideological cultivation in educational settings.

As a digital-based campus reaching all corners of Indonesia, UT is committed to strengthening ethical digital literacy and building collective awareness in the use of cyberspace. This aligns with BPIP’s message that “digital space is not value-free” and that “Pancasila must be a guide in interacting on social media and other digital platforms.”

On this occasion, the Rector also affirmed the importance of mutual cooperation (gotong-royong) and cross-sector collaboration to embody Pancasila in practical application within society, including through the community service of UT’s academic community. The BPIP message read by the Rector underscored that the task of strengthening Pancasila ideology is the responsibility of all elements of the nation. “If we want to realize a Great Indonesia, there is no other way but to ensure that Pancasila remains the soul in every pulse of development,” he concluded.

With a burning spirit of togetherness, all ceremony participants sang national anthems, concluding with a resounding “Salam Pancasila!” chant, marking UT’s collective commitment to facing the challenges of the times. This moment served as a reflection and a reminder that in the era of digitalization and globalization, the spirit of Pancasila must always live on and guide every step and policy of higher education institutions, for the realization of Indonesia’s sustainable development goals.
