Professor is the peak achievement for academics that resembles mastery, dedication, and incredible achievement over research, knowledge, and community service. The position of a professor resembles the depth of knowledge of an academic and their strategic contributions that create solutions and innovations that benefit society and education, especially in the era of technology disruption and global challenge.
A historical moment in Universitas Terbuka occurred on Tuesday, 24 December 2024, with the Professor Decision Letter awarded to Prof. Dr. Etty Puji Lestari, S.E., M.Si., from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and The Development Economics Study Program. With a specialization in International Economics, Prof. Etty becomes the fourth professor in FEB after Prof. Ginta Ginting, Prof. Ali Muktiyanto, and Prof. Abdurrahman. This achievement solidifies UT’s commitment to improving the quality of higher education and shaping world-class academics.
The event that was held in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Science and Technology was attended by the Rector of UT, Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D., Head of Senate, Prof. Dr. Chanif Nurcholis, M.Si., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mohamad Yunus, S.S., M.A., Vice Rector for Finance, Resources, and General Affairs, Prof. Ali Muktiyanto, S.E., M.Si., Dean of FEB, Dr. Meirani Harsasi, S.E., M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training (FKIP), Prof. Dr. Ucu Rahayu, M.Sc., Dean of FST, Dr. Subekti Nurmawati, M.Si., Head of Human Resources Center, Dr. Agus Joko Purwanto, M.Si., and other leaders and staff. In a focused state, the rector’s remark becomes the spirit booster for the academics.
“Congratulations to Prof. Etty Puji Lestari for the achievement as a professor in international economics. We hope you reach more success, have blessed knowledge, and bring many benefits to UT” said Prof. Ojat. He also reminded UT’s lecturers of the importance of honing their expertise, whether in academics or ODL, while pushing FEB to have add more professors in the future.

Prof. Etty Puji Lestari, who is now the Head of Research and Innovation Centre for Open and Distance Education (PRIPTJJ) at the Centre of Research and Community Service (LPPM), is an inspirational figure that proves hard work and commitment brings a massive impact to society and science. The title of professor is not merely an academic recognition, but also a symbol of inspiration for UT students and the younger generation.
