Indonesia Cyber Education (ICE) Institute held The 19th Cyber Education Forum (CEF) by bringing up the theme “Software Development for Measuring Digital Skill.” This forum was held online on the Zoom Meeting platform, and video streamed on UT-TV’s YouTube channel on Tuesday, January 31, 2022. Three people were present at the event: Prof. Dr. Paulina Pannen, M.Ls., the Director of ICE Institute, along with two speakers. One of the speakers was Prof. Dr. Abtar Darshan Singh, a Lecturer from The Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) Malaysia, appointed as the UNESCO Chair on Harnessing Innovations in Technology to Support Teachers & Quality Learning. The other speaker was Heru Widiatmo, Ph.D., a Research and Development Consultant at ICE Institute. Ami Hibatul Jameel, S.Pd., M.A., a Lecturer from the Faculty of Pedagogy and Education Science (FKIP) at Universitas Terbuka, moderated the program.
In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Paulina Pannen expressed the importance of digital skills in managing online courses. These digital skills are prerequisites for students to follow online courses and skills needed for future online activities. She emphasized the need to equip ICE Institute students with digital skills to enhance their capabilities before graduation. It is strongly advised that both students and the general public acquire these skills as they provide added value in employment.
The first presentation was delivered by Prof. Dr. Abtar Singh, titled “Transforming Learners’ and Educators’ Experiences: Maximizing Digital Support Systems.” He was joined by Ts Jonathan Kovilpillai, the Programme Manager in Digital Learning Hub and a lecturer at APU who also holds the UNESCO Chair on SDGiC. APU provides teachers with basic and supplementary skills through a program called Faster Master, which includes skills in Moodle Workshop, HSP, Canva, Microsoft PPT, and EasyGenerator.
Heru Widiatmo, Ph.D., presented on “Instrument Development for Measuring Digital Skill.” He explained that UNESCO formulated two ideas for measuring a person’s digital skills: collecting and managing information and making and exchanging information. He discussed three data collection approaches: self-assessment, knowledge-based assessment, and job performance assessment.
Following the presentations, a question and answer session took place. At the conclusion of the event, Prof. Dr. Paulina Pannen presented program certificates to the speakers at the 19th CEF.
