Universitas Terbuka (UT) has once again proven its quality on the international stage! Five prominent academics from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UT have recently achieved a brilliant accomplishment by becoming speakers and discussants at a prestigious international forum titled ASEAN Policy Forum & Seminar on Expanding The Pangyo Innovation Case. The event, organized by the Seongnam Research Institute (SNRI) in Seongnam City, South Korea, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, became a platform for the exchange of innovative ideas and concepts.
Two main speakers at the forum were Halim Dedi Perdana, Ph.D. from FEB UT, who presented in-depth material on “Halal Industry in Indonesia,” and Dr. Choi Jinheon, a senior researcher at SNRI, who elaborated on the success of “The Success of Pangyo Techno Valley.”
The discussion became even more interesting and engaging with constructive responses from the discussants. Four other FEB UT academics, namely Prof. Dr. Ali Muktiyanto, S.E., M.Si., Dr. Meirani Harsasi, S.E., M.Si., Dr. Kurnia Endah Riana, S.E., M.Com., and Dr. Rini Dwiyani, S.E., M.Si., also provided valuable perspectives along with senior researchers from SNRI, including Kim Hee Ju, Kim Hyeong Yeol, and Chung Soo Jin.
The main highlight of the forum was an intense discussion regarding the potential utilization of technological advancements in Pangyo Techno Valley to accelerate the growth of the halal industry in South Korea. This opportunity is very promising considering that South Korea is a favorite destination for more than one million Muslim tourists each year, and this trend continues to show a significant increase.
Furthermore, the UT academics also highlighted the large potential of the Indonesian market, where the younger generation highly idolizes Korean culture. Korean products with halal certification are believed to have strong appeal and further expand market penetration in Indonesia.
The active participation of FEB UT in this international forum is a real manifestation of the implementation of the close cooperation agreement that has been established between UT, especially FEB, and the Seongnam Research Institute. This achievement once again affirms UT’s commitment to producing internationally qualified graduates and research, as well as establishing strategic partnerships at the global level.
