Universitas Terbuka Reaches top 35 Universities in 2024 ver. Times Higher Education Online Learning Rankings (THE OLR) 2024

Tangerang Selatan – Universitas Terbuka achieved a remarkable milestone with a Bronze predicate on the Online Learning Rankings (OLR) by Times Higher Education (THE). This achievement solidifies UT’s vision as a higher education with world-level quality, competing with other reputable institutions. 

UT is placed on the world’s top 35 universities per the high score on the Outcomes pillar, which evaluates the success of online learning. UT’s achievement on said pillar surpasses other international open universities, such as Anadolu University, Allama Iqbal Open University. The Outcomes Pillar is one of four judge pillars, which include Resource, Engagement, Outcomes, and Environment. 

Interestingly, UT is one of three leading states universities with legal entities with the bronze predicate, along with Universitas Padjadjaran and Universitas Negeri Surabaya. This achievement is due to UT’s initiative in participating in the THE OLR, despite not being one of the invited universities in the Data Collection Portal.  

With high spirits, UT commits to participate in this ranking as a tangible measurement in online learning services. Therefore, UT continuously goes through the process of communication, data submission, and coordination with the THE OLR team regarding data clarificationn throughout the given period. 

With an innovative open and distance learning model, UT surpassed other open institutions on an international level and proved the ability to compete globally. As an open university, UT has shown its advantages through limitless access to quality education, tech-based innovation, and internationally proven quality.  

Times Higher Education, a renowned university ranking body based on the TIME magazine in England, has been ranking universities throughout the years with THE World Ranking, Regional Ranking, Subject Ranking, IMPACT Ranking, and recently, OLR.  The OLR is based on 4 pillars: 

  1. Resources – Resource availability to support online learning, such as lecturers, supporting staffs, monetary resource, and development 
  1. Engagement – Measurement of student interactions through online learning 
  1. Outcomes – Evaluation of online learning outcomes, such as number of programs, collaborations with other institutions, and learning duration 
  1. Environment – Measurment of online learning environment 

With this milestone, UT solidifies its position as a pioneer in online learning recognized by the global world. IN the future, UT commits to increase quality of online learning services, create leading generation in the digital era, and expanding contributions internationally.
