It’s Not About Friend or Foe, It’s Not About Winning or Losing, It’s About Sportsmanship and Solidarity

South Tangerang, July 25, 2024 – The excitement was igniting at the Final 3×3 Basketball Tournament of Disporseni UT 2024, marking the last day of the four-day championship (July 22-25, 2024). The event took place on the afternoon of July 25, 2024, at the basketball court within the Main Office of Universitas Terbuka, Pondok Cabe, South Tangerang. The Final 3×3 Basketball Tournament, featuring top teams from various high schools across Indonesia, captivated many spectators with thrilling and strategic matches. The Final 3×3 Basketball Tournament of Disporseni UT 2024 was attended by the Rector of UT, Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Partnership, and Business, Rahmat Budiman, S.S., M. Hum., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UT, Dr. Meirani Harsasi, S.E., M.Si., who is also the Head of the Disporseni Nasional UT 2024, and Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Learning Services, and Partnership at FEB UT, Olivia Idrus, S.E., M.Sc. 

The eight teams that advanced to the final round of the 3×3 Basketball Tournament included strong teams such as the girls’ team from SMAN 78 Jakarta, the girls’ team from SMAN 3 South Tangerang, the girls’ team from SMA Taman Siswa Banjarnegara, the boys’ and girls’ teams from SMA Kharisma Bangsa, the boys’ team from SMAN 7 South Tangerang, the boys’ team from SMAN 3 Bandung, and the boys’ team from SMAN 1 Banjarnegara. All teams and players showcased their outstanding performances throughout the tournament. The matches began with high intensity, with all teams displaying aggressive play and advanced techniques. 

Before the final match began, Rahmat Budiman, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D. as the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Partnership, and Business of UT, delivered an enthusiastic greeting to the teams competing and the audience present, “SALAM OLAHRAGA! JAYA JAYA JAYA!” He also advised all the competing teams to uphold sportsmanship wherever they are, emphasizing its importance in training, in class, at home, and everywhere else. “Don’t claim to be Millennials or Gen Z if you are still studying at a conventional campus!” 

Sportsmanship and a competitive spirit were evident throughout the thrilling final matches of both the girls’ and boys’ teams. Notable displays of sportsmanship included how the boys’ and girls’ teams graciously accepted fourth and third places. The girls’ team from SMAN 78 Jakarta secured fourth place, and the girls’ team from SMAN 3 South Tangerang secured third place. For the boys’ teams, SMAN 3 Bandung took fourth place, and SMAN 7 South Tangerang secured third place. 

The competition reached its peak during the girls’ final match between SMA Taman Siswa Banjarnegara and SMA Kharisma Bangsa. The team from Kharisma Bangsa managed to equalize the score multiple times through quick plays and penetrating the opponents’ defense. With only a few seconds left, the team from SMA Taman Siswa Banjarnegara scored the decisive shot, leading to a dramatic victory with a final score of 8-7. 

Meanwhile, the most intense and exciting atmosphere was witnessed during the boys’ final match between SMAN 1 Banjarnegara and SMA Kharisma Bangsa. The high-emotion and high-tension match determined the first-place winner of the 3×3 Basketball Tournament of Disporseni Universitas Terbuka 2024. Ultimately, SMA Kharisma Bangsa emerged victorious with a score of 10-6. 

The winners then stepped on to the stage to receive their prizes, including certificates, trophies, and cash awards, presented by Rahmat Budiman, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Partnership, and Business, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UT, Dr. Meirani Harsasi, S.E., M.Si., Head of the National Disporseni UT 2024, and Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Learning Services, and Partnership at FEB, Olivia Idrus, S.E., M.Sc. 

Essentially, the 3×3 Basketball Tournament, specifically, and other competitions within Disporseni National UT 2024, were not merely competitive events but also served as a platform to strengthen the bonds among students and enhance sportsmanship in sports. The conclusion of the Final 3×3 Basketball Tournament emphasized the importance of competitive play only on the court; once the game is over, all participants are friends who share the same hobby. As the saying goes, “Sports opponents are playmates to improve skills and capacities.”
