Education is a main foundation to develop a nation. This was the main focus in the National Education Day Commemoration on May 2. Universitas Terbuka held the ceremony at the courtyard of the Library of central UT office as well as other UT offices in their respective areas.

The Inspector of the Ceremony, the Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, Partnership, and Business, Rahmat Budiman, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D. deliver the mandate of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, with the theme “Bergerak Bersama, Lanjutkan Merdeka Belajar.” (Moving Together, Sustaining Merdeka Belajar)
In his address, he emphasized the important of Merdeka Belajar movement sustainability, initiated during his term of office. He expressed that, there has been huge transformation in educational system of Indonesia for the past five years. “Becoming a pioneer for Merdeka Belajar movement brings to the challenge and opportunity that we have to enhance the education in Indonesia,” He expressed.
Merdeka Belajar movement, has promoted a significant transformation to the perspective and educational practice in Indonesia. Indonesian kids gained more confidence and independence to study, while the teachers obtained more confidence to recognize and evaluate their students. The students are ready to work and to contribute, since the learning space is no longer limited inside the campus. In addition, we can enjoy the work of arts of the artists and the cultural preservers, supported to express.
By the end of the term of office this year, he promoted to every party to keep moving forward with equal excitement. “All we did, need to be maintained as a sustainability movement,” he stated.’ He hoped that Merdeka Belajar is able to strive forward as a part of national effort to jump to the brighter future for education in Indonesia. The minister closed his speech by delivering his gratitude to all parties, supporting this movement and inviting all elements of society to keep promoting and maintaining Merdeka Belajar Movement.
