South Tangerang, August 28, 2025 – Universitas Terbuka (UT) is advancing its goal of becoming a World Class University (WCU) through strategic global partnerships. On Thursday, August 28, 2025, UT welcomed representatives from Shih Chien University and Taipei University for Marine Technology to explore a collaboration for implementing Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs).

The meeting, held at the Rasamala Room in Wisma 2 at UT’s Pondok Cabe headquarters, was attended by Prof. Rahmat Budiman, M.Hum., Ph.D. (Acting Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Partnership, and Business) and Prof. Dewi Artati Padmo Putri, M.A., Ph.D. (Head of UT’s Research and Community Service Institute/LPPM). The Taiwanese delegation included Dr. Li (Vice President of Shih Chien University) and Dr. Yi-Fang Hsieh (Project Leader of Taipei University of Marine Technology), among others.
The discussion focused on leveraging MOOCs to enhance educational quality and international collaboration. UT representatives presented on the university’s experience with MOOCs and micro-credentials through the ICE Institute, while the Taiwanese delegates shared their expertise in developing MOOCs on popular platforms in Taiwan.
This initiative reinforces UT’s strategic move toward becoming a WCU. International collaboration on MOOCs is a tangible sign of UT’s commitment to digital learning innovation that reaches a wider audience. This effort not only strengthens UT’s position as a pioneer in open and distance higher education in Indonesia but also solidifies its role on the global stage.

The collaboration also directly contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by supporting SDG 4 (Quality Education) through expanded access to quality education, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) via the use of digital technology in learning, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening global networks among higher education institutions.
