Universitas Terbuka (UT) continues to showcase its impressive international achievements through the remarkable success of one of its students, Teguh Abdurahman. This law student from the Faculty of Law, Social Sciences, and Political Sciences (FHISIP) at UT successfully secured four medals at the prestigious 21st International World Kempo Championship, held in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, from April 23–27, 2025.
Teguh earned one silver medal in the Self Defense Open Senior category and three bronze medals in the Self Defense Mix Senior, Semi Kempo 70 kg Male Senior, and Full Kempo 70 kg Male Senior categories. This achievement not only brings pride to Indonesia on an international level but also demonstrates that UT students can excel in diverse fields.

Teguh’s participation in this championship affirms that the distance learning system implemented by UT does not hinder its students from achieving success. With the flexibility of time and place offered by UT, students have the opportunity to develop their potential, both in academic and non-academic areas. This also refutes the notion that distance education limits the ability to produce superior human resources capable of competing on the global stage.
The 21st IKF World Kempo Championship 2025 was attended by approximately 3,000 athletes from 80 countries, making it a highly prestigious competition. With international judging standards demanding physical toughness, technical skills, and mental resilience, winning even one medal is an extraordinary accomplishment, let alone securing four medals at once.
Teguh’s achievement reflects UT’s vision to produce adaptable, independent graduates who can compete in various situations. UT continues to strengthen its role in providing quality education access for all segments of society, without being limited by distance or geography, by leveraging information technology and digital learning systems.
Institutional support is also crucial in this accomplishment. UT, through UT Daerah Bandung (UT Bandung Regional Office), actively encourages its students to develop comprehensively, both in academics and competitive sports. Through various programs, training, and available facilities, students are equipped to perform optimally in various competitions.
Teguh Abdurahman’s achievement proves that anyone can achieve success without limitations of time and place. At Universitas Terbuka, every student has an equal opportunity to shine, both in the virtual classroom and on the world stage. And now, the world knows that from an open campus in Indonesia, a true champion has emerged.
