The Future Campus is Here! This Is Indonesia’s One and Only Campus To Achieve Digital Innovation Awards 2025

The Future Campus Is Here! Indonesia’s Only University to Win the Digital Innovation Awards 2025

Jakarta, May 28, 2025 – Universitas Terbuka (UT) has once again made a proud mark in the national higher education landscape. UT received the Digital Innovation in Education Category Award at the prestigious Digital Innovation Awards (DIA) 2025, held by iNews MNC Group at the MNC Conference Hall, iNews Tower, Jakarta, on Wednesday evening (May 28).

This award recognizes UT’s strategic innovation in developing its **Digital Learning Ecosystem (DLE)**—an integrated digital learning ecosystem that combines all information systems and educational technology, based on cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and immersive learning. UT was recognized for successfully presenting a higher education model that is inclusive, flexible, high-quality, and accessible to anyone, anytime, and from anywhere.

The award was received directly by Rahmat Budiman, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Acting Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Partnership, and Business at UT, representing the Rector. In his speech, he stated that digital innovation at UT is not merely an adaptation but a long-term strategy for transforming distance higher education in Indonesia.

“This award is concrete evidence of UT’s commitment to providing quality, open, inclusive, and sustainable distance education. We dedicate this achievement to over 1.5 million UT students, as well as millions of alumni who have been part of the open higher education movement in Indonesia and the world,” affirmed Rahmat Budiman.

Leading in Digital Innovation in Higher Education

As a pioneer in digital-based Open and Distance Higher Education (PTTJJ) in Indonesia, UT continuously implements various breakthroughs to meet contemporary demands. One of its monumental steps is the development of the Digital Learning Ecosystem (DLE), which integrates UT’s information and communication technology systems, including academic policies and digital governance that are adaptive to the expectations of students and stakeholders.

In strengthening its DLE, UT has developed the **Planning, Implementation, and Accountability Information System (SIPPP)**—an integrated digital governance system that supports the business processes of all UT work units. Additionally, UT has launched MyUT, an application-based student portal that provides easy access to academic and administrative services.

Furthermore, UT is pioneering future learning systems such as AI-based Virtual Convergence Learning and microcredentials, and forging strategic collaborations with global companies like AWS, H3C, and Microsoft. One implementation is the AI Copilot training for UT lecturers, a step towards integrating AI into learning planning and improving Key Performance Indicators (IKU) achievements.

AI, Cloud, and Cyber University: UT Towards 2035

With the vision of becoming a Leading Cyber University, UT is strengthening the implementation of AI in various aspects. This ranges from AI Proctoring in online exams, AI-based student advising, to predictive maintenance for campus facilities. AI is also used for learning personalization, such as learning accelerators that allow lecturers to monitor and guide student progress in real-time.

“AI is not just a tool; it’s an active learning partner. We hope AI can help students understand concepts, independently evaluate their understanding, and design their own learning strategies more effectively,” explained UT Rector, Dr. Mohamad Yunus, S.S., M.A., in a seminar.

UT also continues to prioritize ethical principles and responsibility in the use of cutting-edge technology, including the importance of AI literacy among lecturers and students. Seminars, training, and international case studies on AI have been regularly held by UT as part of its continuous digital transformation.

As part of its transformation into a State University with Legal Entity Status (PTN-BH), Universitas Terbuka continues to strengthen integrated educational services through the development of a robust and independent cyber university and Digital Learning Ecosystem. This initiative affirms UT’s position as a main pillar of distance higher education (PTJJ) in Indonesia and globally.

To ensure a measurable and sustainable development direction, UT has set strategic milestones for the next 20 years as follows:

  • Phase I (2025-2029): Becoming a World-Class PTTJJ Based on a Strong Digital Learning Ecosystem.
  • Phase II (2030-2034): Becoming a World-Class PTTJJ Through an Extensive Digital Learning Ecosystem Network.
  • Phase III (2035-2039): Becoming a World-Class PTTJJ Based on a Leading Learning Ecosystem.
  • Phase IV (2040-2045): Becoming the World’s Leading PTTJJ at the Global Level.

This series of long-term strategies demonstrates UT’s readiness to face technological disruption and the dynamics of a global environment increasingly influenced by VUCA conditions—Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity—by building an adaptive, visionary, and innovation-based institutional foundation.
