Real Impact! This is DWP UT’s First Contribution to Society

South Tangerang, March 12, 2025 – In the blessed atmosphere of the holy month of Ramadhan, the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of Universitas Terbuka (UT) held its inaugural event titled “Ramadhan Cheap Bazaar” with the theme “Ramadhan with DWP Universitas Terbuka”. The event, which took place in the parking lot of the Baitul Ulum Mosque UT, was enthusiastically welcomed by the UT academic community and the surrounding community. Present on this occasion were the Rector of UT, Dr. Mohamad Yunus, S.S, M.A., Chairman of the Academic Senate, Vice Rectors of UT, as well as the Administrators and Members of DWP UT Central. The presence of partner banks further enlivened the atmosphere, accompanied by UT employees and the surrounding community who enthusiastically participated in this moment of sharing in this blessed month.

As the inaugural event of DWP UT, the Ramadhan Cheap Bazaar aims to make it easier for the community to obtain basic necessities at more affordable prices. In addition, this event became a place for togetherness between the UT academic community and the community, strengthening the spirit of mutual cooperation in the midst of challenging economic conditions.

The Chairperson of the Committee, Endah Susanti, S.E. expressed her gratitude for the smooth and exceeding expectations of this event. She reported that the initial target of 500 basic food packages had been exceeded to reach 641 basic food packages. In addition, donations collected from donors reached Rp. 59,611,500, which will later be distributed to children in orphanages and flood victims. “We would like to thank the Rector and UT leaders, the Committee, donors, administrators and members of DWP who have supported and worked hard with enthusiasm and high dedication in preparing this event,” she concluded.

The Rector of UT, Dr. Mohamad Yunus, S.S., M.A., in his speech appreciated the positive initiative of DWP UT which he considered a real form of concern for others. “I consider this activity as a form of DWP UT’s concern in supporting the Social and Cultural Field Program, the Spiritual Sub-Field, where the Ramadhan Cheap Bazaar in this blessed month is a means for all of us to share and ease the burden of the surrounding community,” he said.

According to Dr. Mohamad Yunus, the DWP UT cheap bazaar is not just a place to get basic necessities at affordable prices, but also a place for friendship to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between Universitas Terbuka residents and the surrounding community. “I hope this bazaar can provide the greatest benefit for all of us. I also invite all bazaar visitors to shop and enliven the event,” he added.

The General Chairperson of DWP UT, Dra. Uun Turjanah, also expressed her gratitude and highest appreciation to all parties who contributed to the success of this event. “Alhamdulillah, the inaugural activity was able to be realized well today even though the preparation was relatively short. This, of course, cannot be separated from the support of many parties and the hard work of the core Dharma Wanita administrators,” she said.

Dra. Uun Turjanah also emphasized that the organization of this bazaar has an extraordinary meaning. “This Ramadhan Cheap Bazaar is a form of concern from the Dharma Wanita Persatuan Universitas Terbuka for the community in the blessed month of Ramadhan. In addition, this moment also coincides with the commemoration of International Women’s Day, which further adds value to this event. We hope that this bazaar can provide broad benefits for all Universitas Terbuka residents and the surrounding community,” she said.

This bazaar event provides various necessities such as basic food, used goods, and various foods at cheap prices. Not only that, free health check services are also available for visitors. The success of the Ramadhan Cheap Bazaar is expected to inspire DWP UT and the UT academic community to be more active in social activities that can strengthen relations between academics and the community. With good synergy, the campus is not only a place to gain knowledge, but also a part of the solution to social problems in its surroundings.

This moment is real evidence that UT not only contributes to the academic world, but also has a broader role in the social and economic life of the community. The presence of UT leaders and the support of employees, partners, and the community made this bazaar a symbol of caring and togetherness that strengthens the spirit of sharing.

The success of this event is a good first step for DWP UT in developing broader social programs in the future. Hopefully this spirit of sharing will continue, not only in the month of Ramadhan, but also on various other occasions.
