UT’a Internationalization Gets Real, BINAR 2025 Brings A Global Vibe to Indonesia

Tangerang Selatan, 30 July 2025 – Universitas Terbuka (UT) reaffirms its commitment in supporting internationalization in higher education through the Onboarding Session of BINAR 2025. This program is UT’s flagship program to expand global network, strengthen cultural diplomacy, and introduce Indonesia to the world through an immersive cultural and academic experience. 

BINAR 2025 is the second edition of UT’s international summer camp program, now hosting 20 international students from 11 universities in 7 countries, as well as 8 UT Yogyakarta students acting as buddies. After 16 intensive online sessions, participants chosen for the on-site phase are deemed to have the dedication, cross-cultural spirit, and potential for global leadership. 

In his opening remarks, Vice Rector of Academic Affairs of UT, acting as the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Partnership, and Business, Prof. Rahmat Budiman, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D., representing UT leadership, expressed his pride and enthusiasm for this program. 

Meanwhile, Gao Yue – GAO Yue – Program Coordinator for Student Exchange at the International Exchange Office of Shanghai Open University (SOU), expressed her joy in the implementation of the program as a platform for cultural exchange and global opportunities. She hopes that BINAR would continue and generate wider collaborations, especially between SOU and UT in the future. 
 
 
Participants will be experiencing an immersive on-site phase in Jakarta and Yogyakarta to know more aabout the culture, language, and people of Indonesia. They will also participate in academic sessions and cultural events such as batik creation, cultural tour, and a show for the 41st UT Dies Natalis involving international participants. The experience is strengthened by a daily logbook, leading up to a final report as a deep reflection for the learning process. 

In addition, participants will also be put in groups to work on a project with a theme of culture, education, and international collaboration. This project will be presented at the farewell ceremony for BINAR 2025 as a contribution regarding their cultural experiences. BINAR also provides a practical pre-departure briefing, from visa, arrival, accommodation, to local customs. 

This program is not merely beneficial to international students, but also UT Yogyakarta students who gained the golden opportunity to hone their cross-cultural skills, expand their international network, and prepare themselves to be global citizens. 

With the spirits of cultural sharing and partnerships, BINAR 2025 is proof that UT is not merely an actor for limitless education, but also an important actor in building global harmony through education.
