Ministry of Transmigration Explores E-Learning Collaboration with Universitas Terbuka
South Tangerang, March 17, 2025 – The Ministry of Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia is exploring cooperation with Universitas Terbuka (UT) in developing an e-learning system for communities in transmigration areas. This strategic step aims to expand access to higher education for communities that have faced limitations in educational infrastructure.
This official visit took place at the UT Central Campus, Pondok Cabe, South Tangerang, on Monday (17/3). The Minister of Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia, Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara, was present with ministry officials, including Expert Staff for Community Development and Environment, Harlina Sulistyorini; Special Staff to the Minister of Transmigration, Ni Luh Putu Caosa Indryani; and Secretary of the Directorate General of Economic Development and Community Empowerment of Transmigration, Nirwan Ahmad Helmi.
The delegation was welcomed directly by the Rector of UT, Dr. Mohamad Yunus, S.S., M.A., along with UT leaders, including the Vice Rectors, Head of the Learning Management Center, Dimas Agung Prasetyo, S.Kom., M.Sc.; Head of the Processing and Testing Center, Dr. Kartono, S.Pd., M.Si.; and Expert Staff for Marketing, Cooperation, and Public Relations, Dra. Supporting Education Equity through E-Learning
In his speech, UT Rector Dr. Mohamad Yunus appreciated the Ministry of Transmigration’s initiative to strengthen education access in transmigration areas. He emphasized that UT, as a pioneer of Open and Distance Higher Education (PTTJJ) in Indonesia, is committed to continuing to collaborate in equitable digital-based higher education.
“We warmly welcome this synergy. With more than 40 years of experience in distance learning systems, UT is ready to support government programs in improving the quality of human resources in transmigration areas,” said Dr. Mohamad Yunus.


The Minister of Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia, Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara, also expressed his appreciation for UT. According to him, UT has extensive experience in providing flexible and inclusive technology-based learning systems.
“UT is a strategic partner in providing e-learning for transmigration communities. With UT’s digital platform, students can access course materials, take online exams, and interact with tutors without having to come to campus,” said Iftitah.
‘Transmigrasi Patriot’ Program: Encouraging Education in Transmigration Areas
In this meeting, the Ministry of Transmigration also introduced its flagship program, Transmigrasi Patriot, an initiative to improve the quality of human resources in transmigration areas through education. This program will select qualified individuals who have a high commitment to improving their capacity and community welfare.
“Through the Transmigrasi Patriot program, we want to reach more people in transmigration areas with UT’s e-learning system. This is a national movement to open access to higher education for those living in remote areas,” explained Iftitah.
As a follow-up, both parties agreed to form a technical team to design e-learning implementation in transmigration areas. With this step, it is hoped that distance education can be implemented immediately and have a real impact on the community.
Collaboration for a More Inclusive Future
This visit reaffirms the important role of technology in expanding education access in Indonesia. With synergy between UT and the Ministry of Transmigration, it is hoped that more people in remote areas can enjoy quality higher education without being constrained by distance and infrastructure.
“We are optimistic that this collaboration will bring great benefits to transmigration communities and accelerate the development of superior human resources,” concluded Iftitah.
