South Tangerang, February 25, 2025 – Universitas Terbuka (UT) held a meaningful event titled Commemorating Isra Mi’raj, Welcoming Ramadan 1446 Hijriah, and the Handover of the Rector of Universitas Terbuka with the theme Creating Visionary and Integrity Individuals Through the Wisdom of Isra Mi’raj, Tuesday (25/2). The event was attended by various stakeholders, including the Rector of UT Dr. Mohamad Yunus, S.S., M.A., Chairman of the UT Academic Senate, Vice Rectors, unit leaders at UT Central and UT Regional, Chairman of the Universitas Terbuka Alumni Association (IKA UT), General of TNI (Ret.) Dr. Moeldoko, M.Si., as well as UT partners and employees, both offline at the Universitas Terbuka Convention Center (UTCC) and online via Zoom Meeting.

In his speech, the Rector of UT Dr. Mohamad Yunus, S.S., M.A. expressed his appreciation to General of TNI (Ret.) Dr. Moeldoko, M.Si. for his inauguration as Chairman of IKA UT for the second term. “Hopefully his leadership will further bring IKA UT in a more dynamic and progressive direction. I believe the synergy we build will have a positive impact on our alma mater,” he said.

Dr. Mohamad Yunus also emphasized the importance of the three main moments commemorated in this event. First, the Isra Mi’raj event which became a spiritual reflection for all UT academics. Second, preparations to welcome the holy month of Ramadan as a moment of introspection and self-improvement. Third, the relay of UT leadership marked by the farewell of the previous UT Rector, Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D. At this moment, UT Rector Dr. Mohamad Yunus expressed his highest gratitude and appreciation to Prof. Ojat for all the inspiration and dedication that has been done so that UT continues to soar and play a wider role. “Universitas Terbuka has grown rapidly under the leadership of Prof. Ojat. I am committed to continuing this responsibility by carrying out UT’s great vision and mission, ensuring quality open education services are accessible to all people,” said Dr. Mohamad Yunus.

The event became more solemn with the recitation of the holy verses of the Al-Quran by Imranul Karim, an outstanding student from the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) study program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), who had just won The 4th International Holy Quran Competition of Indonesia 2025. His melodious voice created a solemn atmosphere among the participants present.

The tausyiah session held with a prominent speaker and Professor of Theoretical Physics from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Prof. Drs. Agus Purwanto, M.Si, M.Sc, D.Sc., added depth to this event. In his lecture entitled “The Wisdom of Isra Mi’raj and Tarhib Ramadan in the Review of Quranic and Hadith Science”, he explained how Isra Mi’raj not only has spiritual meaning, but can also be studied from a scientific perspective. “The journey of the Prophet Muhammad SAW is proof that science and faith can go hand in hand, opening our horizons of understanding about the wonders of the universe,” he explained. Prof. Agus also invited all those present to welcome Ramadan with optimal preparation, both spiritually and physically, so that this holy month becomes a moment full of blessings and provides maximum benefit.

The most emotional moment occurred when the previous UT Rector, Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D. delivered his impressions and messages. In his speech, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead UT over the past few years. “It never occurred to me in my life, to have the opportunity to be given the mandate as the captain of a big ship like UT. All of UT’s achievements are the result of the hard work of a great and solid team. UT is not just a place to work, but a home for all of us,” he said emotionally. He also appreciated all the academics and partners who have supported UT’s journey to reach a more advanced and better point.

As a symbol of leadership continuity, a souvenir handover ceremony was held between Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D. and Dr. Mohamad Yunus, S.S., M.A. Their warm handshake became a symbol that UT will continue to grow with the spirit of an unbroken relay of struggle.

With the commemoration of Isra Mi’raj, preparations to welcome Ramadan, and the Rector’s farewell and welcome moments, UT reaffirmed its commitment to forming academics based on science, spirituality, and integrity. UT continues to transform to improve the competence of Indonesian human resources through flexible, inclusive and quality open and distance education.
