In an era of rapidly evolving digital advancements, educational transformation has become a necessity to ensure that academia remains relevant and adaptive to changing times. In line with this reality, Universitas Terbuka (UT) has taken concrete steps by partnering with two tech giants, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and H3C, to host an inspiring webinar titled “Transforming Education with Cloud: Optimizing Learning in the Digital Era.” This webinar, held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, was open to practitioners, academics, students, and the general public. It not only explored technological innovations in education but also delved into how cloud computing can lay the foundation for more efficient, inclusive, sustainable, and competitive learning.
The webinar featured expert speakers in their respective fields. Hendry Anwar, Public Sector Solution Architect from AWS, presented a session titled “The Future of Higher Education with AI,” while Jonathan, Senior Solution Architect from H3C, delivered a presentation on “Next in Digital Transformation in Education.” Both speakers offered deep insights into how cloud technology and other digital solutions are revolutionizing the learning experience.

The event opened with remarks from Dr. Subekti Nurmawati, M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at UT. She expressed her appreciation for the strategic collaboration with AWS and H3C. In her remarks, she highlighted that the webinar’s theme aligns with UT’s commitment as an Open and Distance Education University (PTTJJ) to consistently leverage technology for inclusive and sustainable learning. “The partnership between UT, AWS, and H3C is a strategic step toward exploring the potential of cloud technology in higher education. It is hoped that the insights from these experts will help optimize the learning experience through cloud-based technology, AI, and other digital solutions,” she stated. This initiative also aligns with UT’s contribution to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all.

The core sessions began with presentations by the two speakers, moderated by Abdurrahman Rahim Thaha, M.A.B. In the first session, Hendry Anwar from AWS discussed The Future of Higher Education with AI, focusing on:
- AI trends in education: the use of AI/Machine Learning (ML) available on AWS for educational institutions.
- Case studies of AI applications in learning, administration, and research.
- Data foundations as a key differentiator in AI implementation.
Hendry emphasized the democratizing effect of cloud computing, enabling access to data and computational tools across industries, from finance and retail to education. “AI, which was once accessible only to large tech companies, is now available for various institutions, including those in education and research,” he explained.

He also illustrated how AI is transforming higher education in several areas. For academics, AI supports student success by personalizing learning experiences. In student services, AI enhances productivity and the student interaction experience. For campus management, AI aids in predictive maintenance for facilities. In research and innovation, AI handles and analyzes large datasets. Finally, in administration, AI optimizes large-scale document management.
The next session featured Jonathan from H3C, who focused on ICT solutions for digital transformation in education with his presentation, Next in Digital Transformation in Education, highlighting ICT solutions provided by H3C to UT. Jonathan praised UT’s digital transformation, saying, “UT has done an excellent job in implementing digital transformation across its learning, work systems, research, and services.”
Jonathan also underscored H3C’s global collaborations in education, which include 17 Representative Offices, partnerships with over 2,600 universities and research centers, and the development of more than 900 Educational Metro Area Networks (MAN). In Indonesia, H3C has collaborated with over 21 universities, signed three MoUs for the H3C Academy Program, and launched over 35 MBKM Internship Programs to prepare human resources for industry readiness. This demonstrates H3C’s dedication to advancing education both in Indonesia and globally.

This webinar underscored UT’s commitment to leading the way in realizing educational innovation in Indonesia. Through positive synergy and collaboration with global technology partners like AWS and H3C, UT reaffirms its role as a pioneer in delivering high-quality, inclusive, and sustainable technology-based education.
By integrating technology, UT continues to fulfill its vision of future education that is more adaptive and relevant in addressing modern challenges. Through these efforts, UT not only provides broad access to education for anyone, anytime, and anywhere but also ensures that technology is the key to education’s future.
