Regarding enhancing the implementation of Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi and human resource competency, Universitas Terbuka (UT) established a collaboration with Keraton Kasunanan Surakarta. UT, as an education institution, continued to expand the network of collaboration with various entities to realize the availability of accessible higher education for all layers of society all over the country.
On Tuesday (6/2/2024), Universitas Terbuka attended the 20th Tingalan Dalem Jumenengan Pakubuwono XIII event in Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat.

Tingalan Dalem Jumenengan Pakubuwono event is a commemoration of the king’s ascension to the throne. In Javanese, Tingalan means memorial, Dalem is honorary call for Java King, and Jumenengan rooted in Jumeneng means reigning. The event was attended by royal relatives, abdi dalem, and invited guests from government institutions and the kingdoms in Nusantara, as well as local and international guests. In Tingalan Dalem Jumenengan event showed Tarian Bedhaya Ketawang as a traditional dance. Tarian Bedhaya Ketawang is deeply sacred and performed by 9 unmarried teenage girls only once a year in Tingalan Dalem Jumenengan event. UT participation and collaboration with Keraton Surakarta are the embodiment of preserving culture and traditions as an effort to develop Javanese culture.

UT Rector, Prof. Ojat Darojat stated that UT presence at Tingalan Dalem Jumenengan event was a mutually reinforcing effort between UT and Keraton Surakarta Hadingrat and carried out responsibility as an education institution in order to preserve and inherit the noble cultural values of Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat. Strengthening UT relations with partners like Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat can create collaborative institution developments. Having positive collaboration will give convenient access for UT lecturers and students to conduct research studies and write scientific papers, as well as do internship programs as a part of Kampus Merdeka’s implementation in Keraton.
