Since its inception in 1986, the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) has remained steadfast in its dedication to uniting the brightest minds in open education across Asia. Embarking on an enlightening journey, the AAOU Lecture Series 2024 delves into the theme “Current Issues in the Global Educational Research Paradigm.” The inaugural session, convened on Wednesday, 28 February 2024, at 10.00 AM (Jakarta Time/UTC +7), served as a momentous occasion, drawing together intellects from diverse academic landscapes.
Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D., the Rector of Universitas Terbuka and President of AAOU, set the tone by highlighting the significance of academic writing and publication in the current educational landscape. He introduced the AAOU Lecture Series as a platform to encourage students and faculty alike.
Moving into the main session, Dr. Mubeshera Tufail, a Lecturer at the Faculty of Education, Allama Iqbal Open University, skillfully moderate the session, ensuring a seamless flow of insights and discussions.
The series commenced with profound insights from Prof. Dr. M. Gorky Sembiring, M.Sc, a distinguished Professor at Universitas Terbuka, Indonesia. He delved into futuristic research gaps, themes, and topics within Open and Flexible Distance Learning (OFDL), emphasizing the delicate balance between innovation and evidence-based practices.
Following this, Dr. Thirumeni Subramaniam, an Associate Professor at Open University Malaysia, provided a comprehensive session on research paradigms, practical knowledge, and the art of securing research grants.
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A session, witnessing active participation from over 200 attendees eager to delve deeper into the shared knowledge.
Rahmat Budiman, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D., as the AAOU Secretary General, announced that the Lecture Series, dedicated to students and academics across all levels, aims to guide participants in producing quality academic work. With the overarching theme, “A Roadmap to Successful Publication,” the series is poised to continue with 12 sessions, offering valuable insights for the academic community.
