More Than Expanding Access to Higher Education, UT Majene Encourages the Community to Donate Blood and Save Lives

MAJENE — Universitas Terbuka (UT) has long been recognized as a public university that provides access to higher education for people from all walks of life, regardless of age, occupation, or place of residence. However, UT’s commitment to serving the community extends beyond education. Through a variety of social initiatives, the university continues to strengthen its role as an institution that grows alongside the community while contributing to humanitarian causes.

This commitment was once again demonstrated by Universitas Terbuka Majene through a blood donation drive held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the UT Majene Office on Jenderal Sudirman Street No. 2, Kabupaten Majene, Sulawesi Barat. The event, which took place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Central Indonesia Time (Waktu Indonesia Tengah – WITA), reflected UT’s commitment to supporting public health while helping maintain adequate blood supplies across the province.

From early morning, the UT Majene office was noticeably busier than usual. Dozens of participants arrived throughout the event to donate blood. The donors included university leaders, faculty and staff members, as well as members of the surrounding community. Enthusiasm was evident from the registration process through to the completion of the blood donation activities.

The humanitarian initiative was made possible through collaboration between UT Majene, the Indonesian Red Cross (Palang Merah Indonesia – PMI) of Kabupaten Majene, and the Blood Donation Unit (Unit Donor Darah – UDD) of the Indonesian Red Cross in Polewali Mandar (Polman). Through this partnership, UT Majene contributed to strengthening public health services by helping ensure that blood supplies remain available for patients in need at healthcare facilities across Sulawesi Barat.

Carrying the slogan, “Your Drop of Blood Means Life to Others, Donate Blood, Save Lives!”, participants voluntarily donated blood as an expression of compassion and solidarity. Every donation is expected to provide hope for patients undergoing medical treatment who require blood transfusions.

Devi Ayuni, Director of UT Majene, said that the activity reflects Universitas Terbuka’s ongoing commitment to serving communities through initiatives that deliver tangible social benefits.

“Through the successful implementation of this event, UT Majene reaffirms its strong commitment and consistency in serving the community through meaningful and impactful initiatives,” Devi Ayuni said.

According to her, Universitas Terbuka’s role extends beyond providing quality and accessible higher education. The university also has a social responsibility to foster a culture of compassion, mutual cooperation, and community solidarity.

Devi explained that UT Majene is committed not only to delivering quality higher education but also to expanding its social contributions and strengthening humanitarian engagement on a sustainable basis to support public health and save lives throughout Sulawesi Barat.

The blood donation drive reflects the values that Universitas Terbuka continues to uphold in implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. In addition to expanding access to quality education for everyone, UT strives to create a broader social impact through its community engagement initiatives. The university’s presence is felt not only through its flexible learning services that reach communities across Indonesia, but also through social programs that directly address the needs of society.

Through this initiative, UT Majene once again emphasized that education and social responsibility are inseparable. The purpose of education is not only to develop highly capable individuals but also to nurture empathy, compassion, and a commitment to helping others. From classrooms to humanitarian initiatives, Universitas Terbuka continues its mission of providing quality education while making a meaningful contribution to society.
