The smiles and joy of children from Bait Qur’ani, Dompet Dhuafa Gaplek, and PPKIT Tazkia Insani warmed the atmosphere at the Baitul ‘Ulum Mosque of Universitas Terbuka (UT) on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Amid the UT community, they attended a Pengajian Umum and Charity Event for Orphans and Underprivileged Children organized by PERMATA UT, a gathering filled not only with religious guidance and charitable assistance but also serving as a space to strengthen ties and translate the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) into concrete action.
Carrying the theme “Following the Character of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Nurturing Care and Sharing with Orphans and the Underprivileged,” the event invited the UT community to reflect once again that love for the Prophet Muhammad does not stop at words and understanding but needs to be manifested through care and meaningful contributions to others, particularly those in need.
Chair of PERMATA UT, Een Suaeni, S.E., M.Si., expressed her appreciation to all parties who supported the organization of the event. According to her, the involvement of various parties was an important part of organizing an activity that provided benefits while strengthening concern for orphans and underprivileged people.
“It is a reminder that love for the Prophet Muhammad is not enough to be expressed merely through words, but must be reflected in concrete actions in the form of care and meaningful contributions to others,” Een said.
According to Een, following the example of the Prophet Muhammad means bringing benefits to others, including showing concern for those in need. This value can be manifested through simple actions in everyday life, from the family environment to the wider community.
The message of caring for orphans and the underprivileged was also emphasized through a reminder of Surah Al-Ma’un verses 1–3, which teaches the importance of caring for orphans and encouraging concern for the poor.
Therefore, the assistance provided during the event was not merely viewed as material aid. More than that, it served as an expression of care and affection for the children in attendance. Such concern is part of efforts to provide meaningful support to those in need while taking part in reducing the social vulnerabilities still faced by some members of society, in line with the spirit of SDG 1: No Poverty.
From Concern to a Social Movement
For Een, concern does not always have to take the form of major assistance. Attention given to those in need, when carried out consistently and collectively, can become a step toward creating a more supportive social environment.
This spirit is also connected to efforts to build a more equitable society. When the UT community provides attention to orphans, underprivileged people, and groups in need of support, such concern becomes part of efforts to narrow social gaps and provide opportunities for more people to experience the benefits of togetherness. This value is in line with SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, which emphasizes the importance of building a more inclusive society.
Een hopes that the social activities carried out by PERMATA UT will not end with this event. With the support of the UT community, partners, and various other parties, similar activities are expected to continue to be developed so that their benefits can reach a wider community.
This hope is in line with the role of PERMATA UT as an organization that brings together the UT community from both ASN and non-ASN backgrounds. PERMATA UT is expected to serve as a space for strengthening relationships and building togetherness, not only at UT Central but also with 39 Regional UT offices and UT services overseas.
“Inshaa-Allah, with PERMATA, we will become even closer. PERMATA is not only a gathering platform, but can unite the commitment of all administrators and members to support the vision and mission, especially the vision and mission of UT,” Een said.
The spirit of uniting commitment also demonstrates the importance of collaboration in creating meaningful contributions. Social activities do not stand alone but can grow when the UT community, partners, and various parties take on roles according to their respective capacities. This spirit of building cooperation to achieve common goals is in line with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
According to Een, building good relationships does not always have to be done through major steps. Concern can begin in the immediate environment, including within the family. Simple forms of support, such as offering a smile, attention, and encouragement to a spouse or family member, can become a source of positive energy in carrying out daily activities and work.
From the family environment, this value can then be extended to the workplace and community. When everyone takes on a role according to their abilities, concern no longer remains an individual act but can develop into a shared habit that brings benefits to the surrounding environment.
Bringing the Example into Everyday Life
Through the Public Religious Gathering and Charity Event for Orphans and the Underprivileged, PERMATA UT invited the UT community not to stop at verbally understanding the example of the Prophet Muhammad but to bring it into actions that are closely connected to everyday life.
Strengthening relationships, showing concern for others, sharing with those in need, and building collaboration are simple forms of action that everyone can take to create meaningful contributions.
For PERMATA UT, the event was one of the steps toward strengthening togetherness while nurturing the spirit of sharing within the UT community. Moving forward, this spirit is expected to continue growing into a broader social movement that benefits an increasing number of people.
Thus, the example of the Prophet Muhammad is not only remembered in a religious gathering but brought to life through concrete actions, from the family environment and workplace to the wider community. After all, simple acts of care, when carried out together, can become small steps toward creating a broader impact.
