When Culture Meets the Digital World, This UT Student Is Promoting “Guci” in a Different Way

Tegal, June 16, 2026 – The Ruwat Bumi Guci 2026 cultural celebration has become more than a vibrant tradition preserving local heritage on the slopes of Mount Slamet. Behind the series of events, young people are playing an important role in elevating the profile of Kabupaten Tegal through digital tourism promotion. One of them is Siska Ayu Agniya Putri, a student at Universitas Terbuka (UT) Jakarta, who has been actively introducing the beauty of “Guci” to a wider audience.

As a Finalist of “Mas Mbak Jawa Tengah 2025” and the 2025 Tourism Ambassador (Mbak Duta Wisata) of Kabupaten Tegal, Siska used the Ruwat Bumi Guci celebration as an opportunity to showcase the region’s leading tourist attractions. Through her personal social media platforms, as well as the official digital channels of the Tourism Ambassador program and the Tegal Regency Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office (Dinas Kepemudaan, Olahraga, dan Pariwisata – Disporapar), she has consistently promoted the tourism potential of Tegal.

“What we can do is promote it through social media, whether through our personal accounts, the Tourism Ambassador accounts, or the Disporapar accounts,” Siska said during the Ruwat Bumi Guci 2026 event on Tuesday (June 16).

For Siska, digital media serves as an effective platform for reaching the public, particularly younger generations. Her experience as an influencer, combined with her involvement in modeling, fashion, and various youth and environmental organizations, has enabled her to present tourism information in a way that is engaging, relatable, and accessible.

Her participation in numerous tourism and cultural initiatives has also provided valuable experience. Among them, Ruwat Bumi Guci stands out as one of her most memorable moments because it successfully brought together cultural preservation and regional tourism promotion.

“It has been an extraordinary experience for me,” she said.

Siska’s achievements reflect Universitas Terbuka’s commitment to encouraging students to grow, contribute, and create positive impacts across various sectors of society. Through her role as a tourism ambassador, she demonstrates that university students can become effective promoters of regional tourism while serving as bridges between local culture and broader audiences.

In addition to Siska, other Tourism Ambassadors of Kabupaten Tegal have also contributed to strengthening the positive image of the Guci tourism area. Dyah Aulia Rahma, Tourism Ambassador of Kabupaten Tegal, explained that the ambassadors actively provide updated information about local tourist destinations, including assuring visitors that Guci remains safe to visit following the natural disaster that previously affected the area.

According to Dyah, although Pancuran 13 is still undergoing restoration, visitors continue to have access to a wide range of attractions, including nature tourism, hot spring destinations, and numerous cultural events held throughout the year.

To broaden the reach of their promotional efforts, the tourism ambassadors are equipped with communication skills in Indonesian, English, and the Tegal dialect. These language abilities enable them to communicate effectively with both domestic and international visitors.

The promotional initiatives carried out by the Tourism Ambassadors also support sustainable tourism development and local community empowerment, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8, which promotes regional economic growth through tourism and cultural preservation.
