CIAMIS — As the job market becomes increasingly competitive, higher education is more important than ever. Yet for many people, pursuing a university degree still feels out of reach due to financial constraints, distance, limited time, or work commitments. In response to these challenges, Universitas Terbuka (UT) continues to expand access to higher education, ensuring that quality learning opportunities are available to everyone.
This commitment is reflected in the opening of new student admissions by Universitas Terbuka Bandung in Ciamis Regency. Through the Universitas Terbuka Service Center (SALUT) Permanadikusumah Ciamis, local residents now have greater access to public higher education through a flexible and affordable learning system. New student registration is open from May 4 to July 22, 2026.
As a public university that has pioneered Indonesia’s open and distance learning system for more than four decades, Universitas Terbuka is committed to providing quality education without barriers. UT not only serves urban communities but also extends educational opportunities to people living in rural areas, working professionals, entrepreneurs, and individuals who have previously faced obstacles to continuing their education.
Tetet Widiyanti, Head of SALUT Permanadikusumah Ciamis, explained that the establishment of the service center represents UT’s continued effort to strengthen its educational support at the local level. The center is an expansion of the Learning Group (Kelompok Belajar – Pokjar) that had previously operated in Ciamis.
“We currently offer study opportunities through four major faculties as well as postgraduate programs,” Tetet said during an interview on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
Through SALUT Permanadikusumah Ciamis, prospective students can choose study programs offered by the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Faculty of Law, Social Sciences, and Political Sciences (FHISIP), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), and Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP). Master’s and doctoral degree programs are also available.
According to Tetet, one of Universitas Terbuka’s greatest strengths lies in its ability to provide higher education that adapts to the diverse needs of society. Its online learning system allows students to continue their education without having to leave their jobs or other responsibilities.
“Our online learning model enables students to study without being restricted by time or location. We are ready to support the educational needs of the community anytime and anywhere,” she said.
This flexibility has made UT an attractive option for a wide range of learners, including recent high school graduates, working professionals seeking career advancement, teachers pursuing professional development, and homemakers wishing to return to higher education.
More broadly, UT’s presence in Ciamis reflects its ongoing commitment to expanding equitable access to higher education across Indonesia. Through its inclusive learning model and relatively affordable tuition, the university seeks to ensure that earning a university degree is not a privilege reserved for a select few but an opportunity available to all members of society.
This initiative is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), which promotes inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all.
Public interest in SALUT Permanadikusumah Ciamis continues to grow steadily. The number of new applicants has increased, while the SALUT team actively conducts outreach programs in schools and collaborates with village governments to expand public awareness of higher education opportunities.
In addition to new student admissions, UT Bandung, through SALUT Permanadikusumah Ciamis, will also administer the End-of-Semester Examination (UAS) on June 26–27, 2026. The examinations will be conducted both online and in person at UT Bandung’s partner schools, namely SMAN 1 Ciamis, SMKN 2 Ciamis, and SMPN 4 Ciamis.
Tetet encouraged prospective students to take advantage of the registration period, which remains open until July 2026.
“Registration will remain open until July 2026. Anyone interested in consulting with us or registering can visit our service office in Kertasari Village, Ciamis District,” she said.
For Universitas Terbuka, higher education is more than an academic service, it is a pathway to creating opportunities and improving people’s quality of life. While many assume that pursuing a university degree requires sacrificing work, time, or distance, UT continues to demonstrate that quality higher education can be accessible to anyone, anywhere, and at any stage of life.
