Behind the dense forests and winding rivers of Gunung Mas Regency, Central Kalimantan, lies the quiet dedication of early childhood education (PAUD) teachers who serve in remote areas. Every day, they travel long and challenging routes to teach the region’s youngest learners. Yet behind their commitment is a long-held hope: access to quality higher education to improve their competence and professional standing.
That hope is now becoming reality through a collaboration between the Gunung Mas Regency Office of Education, Youth and Sports, the Central Kalimantan Provincial Education Office, and Universitas Terbuka (UT) Palangka Raya. On Tuesday (6 January 2026), 250 PAUD teachers took part in a socialization program for the “Huma Betang: One Family, One Graduate” full scholarship initiative.
Through UT’s flexible distance learning system, teachers can continue teaching while pursuing a bachelor’s degree without leaving their communities. This initiative aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education, ensuring equitable access to higher education regardless of location.
Head of the Gunung Mas Education Office, Aprianto, explained that the program aims to provide clear and comprehensive information on the scholarship process for 2026. Beyond administrative guidance, the program is a form of recognition for teachers’ long-standing service. Scholarship recipients will be supported through undergraduate studies and continue to the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program to obtain professional certification.
More than a formal program, this initiative is an investment in the future of education in remote Central Kalimantan—empowering teachers to deliver higher-quality early childhood education and strengthening inclusive educational development across the region.
