Jakarta, February 14, 2025 – Universitas Terbuka (UT) once again recorded a brilliant achievement on the national stage. At the Indonesia Top Achievements Awards 2025 award night held at Grand Studio Metro TV, UT won two awards at once, namely:


- “A Prominent Open University in Southeast Asia”
- This award was given for UT’s excellence in providing quality and internationally standardized online learning services. UT’s increasingly prominent reputation in the Southeast Asian region was also a determining factor in the award. This award was received directly by the Rector of UT, Dr. Mohamad Yunus, S.S., M.A.
- “Excellence in Leadership for Digital Transformation of Open University System”
- This award was given to Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D., who served as Rector of UT in the 2017-2025 period. He was considered to have transformational leadership in carrying out digital learning and smart education innovations at UT. The development of an interactive e-Learning platform with AI (Artificial Intelligence), VR (Virtual Reality), and Learning Analytics is clear evidence of UT’s commitment to providing the best learning experience for students. In addition, transformations in various lines of management with digital application systems are also one of the important points appreciated by the jury. The Media Group as the organizer of the event also gave an award for Prof. Ojat Darojat’s international leadership, which was considered to have succeeded in raising UT’s reputation in the regional scope, where he served as President of the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) for the 2023-2025 period.
Recognition of UT’s Excellence
These two awards are proof of recognition of UT’s excellence as a leading open university in Indonesia. UT not only succeeded in providing innovative and quality distance education, but also was able to carry out significant digital transformations to improve the student learning experience.
UT’s success in winning this award is also inseparable from its role on the international stage, including:
- World Top 35 ranking in the Online Learning Rankings (OLR) 2024 from Times Higher Education (THE) in the Outcomes pillar.
- Accreditation and certification both nationally and internationally from AAOU (Asian Association of Open Universities).
- The largest number of study programs, students and alumni in Indonesia.
The Rector of UT, Dr. Mohamad Yunus, S.S., M.A., expressed his gratitude and thanks for the award given. “This award is a recognition as well as an honor for the entire UT family in order to improve service quality to students and the Indonesian people. Hopefully the award obtained on this occasion will make UT even more determined to continue its role in better steps,” he said.
The 2025 Indonesia Top Achievements Awards became a stage for UT to shine. With these two awards, UT is increasingly motivated to continue to develop itself and make greater contributions to the advancement of education in Indonesia. UT will continue to innovate and strive to provide the best for students and the Indonesian people.
The Indonesia Top Achievements Awards were judged by a jury consisting of experts in various fields, based on research data on the track record of achievements, innovations and core competencies of institutions. There were 14 awards given to institutions that excelled and had superior innovations in the education, health and digital sectors. Arief Suditomo, President Director of Metro, congratulated UT, “Congratulations to Universitas Terbuka, this is an award that should have been received by UT a long time ago, because there are so many achievements from UT for the Indonesian people.” Likewise, Arief H. Thamrin, Founder of Indonesia Top Achievement Awards, strengthened UT’s achievements and achievements, “Universitas Terbuka is the pride of Indonesia, has international achievements and is one of the largest in Southeast Asia. We hope that in the near future it can reach 1 million students.”
