In Jeneponto, being an early childhood (PAUD) teacher often means prioritizing devotion to children while postponing personal dreams of higher education. Yet these teachers play a crucial role in building the foundation of quality education, in line with SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, especially in non-urban areas.

On December 27, 2025, during the 2025 Himpaudi Award at the Jeneponto Regent’s Office, a key milestone was reached. Himpaudi Jeneponto and Universitas Terbuka (UT) Makassar signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support the academic upgrading of PAUD teachers through flexible distance learning and scholarship opportunities.

This collaboration addresses major barriers faced by PAUD teachers—time, distance, and cost—allowing them to pursue higher education without leaving their classrooms. UT Makassar Director Prof. Abdul Rahman Rahim reaffirmed UT’s mission to provide accessible and affordable education, while Jeneponto Regent Paris Yasir pledged local government support, including education funding and scholarships.

As a nationally accredited public university, UT brings higher education closer to underserved communities. This cross-sector partnership between UT, Himpaudi, and the local government reflects SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, turning commitment into concrete action to strengthen Indonesia’s early childhood education from the ground up.
