UT Malang Student Rosa Amalia Wins Gold at East Java Porprov IX 2025, Sets Sights on National Games

South Tangerang, July 22, 2025 – Rosa Amalia, a Universitas Terbuka (UT) Malang student from Kediri, has once again captured public attention after achieving a gold medal at the Pekan Olahraga Provinsi (Porprov) Jawa Timur (East Java) IX 2025. Amidst economic limitations and various life challenges, Rosa proves that determination, consistency, and the right educational support can pave the way to national and international achievements.

Competing in the jujitsu Newaza Under 63-kilogram category, Rosa dramatically secured the gold medal with winning points in the final seconds of the match. This achievement serves as an important stepping stone towards her next goal: representing her region in the XXI National Sports Week (PON) 2025.

Rosa is not only a tough athlete but also a diligent learner. Choosing to study at Universitas Terbuka allows her to balance intensive athletic training with her academic process, free from the constraints of space and time. “UT supports me greatly as an athlete. The flexible class schedule allows me to continue training and studying,” Rosa shared.

Rosa’s life story is also one of struggle. Since childhood, she has been accustomed to independence. Her mother passed away when she was in elementary school, and her father fell ill when Rosa was a teenager. To make ends meet, she sold snacks during high school to pay for her tuition. “I had trouble paying for school, and my diploma was held back. But I kept trying,” she recounted.

After successfully redeeming her diploma by working at a supermarket, Rosa continued her education at UT while pursuing jujitsu. In 2022, she won a silver medal at the Thailand Open Grand Prix, proving her ability to compete at an international level.

Now, Rosa is preparing to join the regional training camp (puslatda) as part of her preparation for PON 2025. Her hope is simple yet strong: to make her parents proud and prove that economic limitations are not a barrier to achievement.

Rosa’s story reflects the values upheld by UT—open, inclusive, and adaptive access to higher education that meets students’ needs. UT is not just a place of study but a growth environment that facilitates students’ development both academically and non-academically, including in competitive sports.

With an unyielding spirit, Rosa Amalia shows that from a digital campus like UT, a young generation is born, ready to carry Indonesia’s name onto national and global stages.
