Tangerang Selatan, June 16, 2025 – The selection process for the prospective Rector of Universitas Terbuka (UT) for the 2025–2030 period has been completed. The rigorous and transparent selection stages, conducted by the UT Board of Trustees (MWA) along with the UT Rector Election Committee (PPR), presented nine top candidates from within academia and internal leadership. 

The screening was carried out through two main stages: 

• Fit and Proper Test by an independent assessment institution, held on June 3–4, 2025. 

• Vision, Mission, and Strategy Presentation Session by the prospective rector candidates (Bacarek) before nine external panelists on June 11–13, 2025. 

The panelists involved in the assessment came from various backgrounds—international academics, education figures, digital industry leaders, and public policy sectors. They are: 

• Prof. Kam Cheong Li (Hong Kong Metropolitan University) 

• Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas (Indonesian Anti-Corruption Coalition) 

• Prof. Dr. Komaruddin Hidayat (International Islamic University of Indonesia) 

• Dr. Melinda dela Pena Bandalaria (University of the Philippines Open University) 

• Olivia Basrin, MPP (Google Cloud Education Indonesia) 

• Prof. Dr. Ir. KH. Mohammad Nuh, DEA (Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember) 

• Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Anuar Ali (Open University Malaysia) 

• Denni Puspa Purbasari, Ph.D. (PMO Prakerja) 

• Prof. Mohamad Nasir, M.Si., Ph.D. (Universitas Diponegoro) 

Based on the comprehensive assessment and public presentation results, the UT MWA has designated three rector candidates who will proceed to the final stage, namely: 

• Prof. Dr. Ali Muktiyanto, SE, M.Si. 

• Dr. Meirani Harsasi, SE, M.Si. 

• Rini Yayuk Priyati, SE, MEc, Ph.D. 

These three candidates will participate in the Rector Candidate Debate scheduled for:

This debate will be an important platform to deepen public understanding of each rector candidate’s vision and strategic programs in facing the challenges and opportunities of the future of open higher education in Indonesia and globally.
