Universitas Terbuka (UT) has played a significant role in fulfilling the educational needs of Indonesia for more than 40 years. One proof of UT’s role is providing opportunities for anyone with limitations of space and time to continue their education amidst their busy schedules. For example, at the UT Jember Graduation Ceremony for Period I of 2025, held last Wednesday, April 30th, a graduate stole the spotlight: Dr. Muhammad Aan Auliq, S.T., M.T., a graduate from the UT Management Science Study Program.
As the first doctoral graduate of UT Jember, he is also a lecturer and the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jember. This is certainly proof of UT’s flexible learning system, providing access to quality education for anyone who wants to advance.
When interviewed by Radar Jember, Dr. Muhammad Aan Auliq himself acknowledged the convenience offered by UT. “Studying at UT can be done while working. Everything is online, but with conditions: discipline and diligence,” he said. This experience shows that with determination and discipline, higher education can be achieved by anyone.
In her remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Social Sciences, and Political Sciences of UT, Dr. Meita Istianda, S.I.P., M.Si., conveyed, “You are proof that education is not the right of a select few, but the right of every individual who is willing to strive, whatever their profession.”
For information, UT Jember officially inaugurated 773 graduates from various levels of education on April 30th. Prior to the graduation ceremony, UT Jember held an academic seminar themed “Building Civilization through Cultural Values, Ethics, and Real Contributions” on Tuesday, April 29th. The seminar featured speakers from various institutions, including a lecturer from UIN KHAS Jember, Basuki Kurniawan, S.H., M.H., and the Rector of Universitas Islam Cordoba Banyuwangi, Prof. Agus Trihartono, M.A., Ph.D., with Angga Wisudawan, S.Kom.I., M.Med.Kom., as the moderator.

The Director of UT Jember, Dra. Barokah Widuroyekti, M.Pd., in her remarks emphasized the importance of building a civilization rooted in culture, ethics, and real contributions.
“Great civilizations are not built overnight. They grow from the roots of culture that are preserved, from ethical values that are inherited, and from real contributions that not only become traces but also pave the way for future generations,” she said.
The Director of UT Jember conveyed that UT has provided learning opportunities for anyone, regardless of their background. UT Jember students who come from various professions, ranging from teachers, housewives, flight attendants, to content creators, can improve their competencies through flexible and digital-based lectures without having to leave their professions or other activities.
With affordable fees and accreditation from BAN-PT (National Accreditation Board for Higher Education), UT is increasingly becoming the top choice for people who want to continue their higher education. UT is committed to continuing to provide inclusive and quality access to education, in line with the vision of producing a superior generation to welcome Golden Indonesia 2045.
