Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) consistently demonstrated its commitment to bringing together the most brilliant minds in open education throughout Asia. Marking the step to elevate the quality of education aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals 4 (quality education).
The recent virtual gathering hosted by Asia Association of Open Universities (AAOU), a Lecture Series via Zoom was not just an ordinary event, it was a profound exploration into the world of academia titled “A Roadmap to Successful Publication: Choosing a Research Topic.” This enlightening session, organized by AAOU, aimed to foster a collaborative environment for learning and knowledge exchange, focusing specifically on the realms of education and online learning.

The session began with a welcoming speech by Prof. Ojat, the President of AAOU, set the stage with impassioned remarks, underscoring the organization resilient commitment to facilitating unlimited insight and knowledge sharing. On his speech, He highlighted the critical importance of selecting a research topic, emphasizing its profound impact on shaping the direction, scope, and methodologies of academic efforts. Quoting the timeless proverb, “The beginning of knowledge is discovering something we do not understand,” Prof. Ojat urged participants to approach the lecture with curiosity and eagerness to learn.



Guiding the conversation with expertise was Dr. Yasodara Kathirgamathamby, a revered senior lecturer from Open University Sri Lanka, renowned for her expertise in educational research. Her insightful moderation led to engaging discussions and meaningful exchanges throughout the session.
Offering invaluable perspectives was Prof. Dr. M.O. Raufu, the Dean at the International Open University of The Gambia. With clarity and comprehensiveness, Prof. Raufu unraveled the essence of a research topic, portraying it as the fundamental of scientific inquiry. He elaborated on the aspects of a well-crafted topic, emphasizing the importance of clarity, specificity, and alignment with the research objectives. Additionally, he navigated through common obstacles in topic selection, offering practical insights for refining research topics.
The second speaker was Prof. Dr. Mehmet Firat from the Faculty of Education at Anadolu University. With years of academic pursuit, Prof. Firat unveiled the criteria for selecting a proper research topic, prioritizing alignment with personal interests, originality, and scientific relevance. He outlined practical strategies for effective topic selection, urging participants to embark on thorough background research and ensure alignment with their academic and career aspirations.
The event reached its final session with a dynamic exchange of ideas and insights, underscoring the important role of detailed topic selection in the pursuit of scholarly excellence.
