As a university that continuously innovates in open and distance learning systems, UT is increasingly solidifying its role in building a superior generation ready to compete in the digital era. This is evidenced by the 350 Universitas Terbuka (UT) students who are members of the UT Service Center (SALUT) Majalengka participating in the New Student Orientation (OSMB) 2025. The event took place at the Islamic Center Building Majalengka on Saturday (March 15, 2025) and marked the initial step for students to understand the distance learning system implemented by UT.
The Head of SALUT Majalengka, H. Joko Setiyono, M.Kom, emphasized the importance of OSMB as a provision for students in facing the online learning system. According to him, with this orientation, students will be better prepared to adapt and will not find it difficult to undergo lectures at UT, especially for those from Majalengka and Indramayu Regencies.
“We hope students can complete their studies on time. In addition, this activity also demonstrates UT’s existence in Majalengka, so the community does not need to hesitate to pursue higher education at UT,” said Joko.
Furthermore, Joko revealed that SALUT Majalengka has achieved various proud accomplishments. Out of 753 SALUTs throughout Indonesia, SALUT Majalengka successfully achieved first place in the best social media management category and second place in the best UT management nationally. In addition, the number of UT Majalengka students currently reaches 2,100 people, with 800 of them having completed their studies since UT was established in Majalengka in 2017.
The Director of UT Bandung, Drs. Enceng, M.Si, added that OSMB is a mandatory support service for new students to increase their resilience and success in their studies. He emphasized that UT Bandung has a wide regional coverage, and Majalengka meets the requirements as a location for UT education service delivery.
“UT has four main programs in the Distance Learning Support Services (LPKBJJ), one of which is OSMB. Through this activity, students can understand the concept of open and independent higher education, get to know UT’s vision and mission, and gain insight into the SALUT environment. In addition, there is also distance learning skills training to ensure students can optimize their learning process,” explained Enceng, M.Si.
UT’s excellence as an open and distance learning university makes it an inclusive and flexible higher education solution. This learning model is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the aspects of quality education and equitable access to education for all. UT enables anyone, including those in remote areas, workers, and housewives, to achieve higher education without having to leave their main activities.
With the increasing number of students choosing UT as their place to pursue higher education, UT consistently proves its commitment to supporting the improvement of human resources quality in Indonesia. The success of SALUT Majalengka in producing graduates and achieving national awards is concrete evidence that UT not only provides access to higher education but also guarantees the quality and sustainability of learning for its students.
