Shaping Golden Indonesia, Igniting The Spirit of Youth to Fight in Global Level!

The commemoration of the 96th Youth Pledge Day in 2024 sparks the theme “Advancing with Great Indonesia”. This commemoration encourages students in Indonesia to build Global Connections to shape the Golden Indonesia 2025. The spirit of the youth pledges this year emphasizes the importance the quality of integrity, skill, and leadership for the younger generation in fighting the battle of the future as well as actualizing Indonesia’s dreams. Firstly, a young generation with high integrity is needed. Secondly, an adequate capacity for skills and intellectuality. Thirdly, compassionate and professional leadership characteristics. In addition, the commemoration of the Youth Pledge Day is also a momentum to remember an important event in Indonesian history, which was the Youth Pledge Event in 1928. An event in which Indonesian youth stated their determination to unite.

Following that, Universitas Terbuka (UT) held a commemorative ceremony for the 96th Youth Pledge Day on Monday, 28th October 2024 in the yard of UT Headquarters Library Building, South Tangerang. This ceremony was attended by every employee of Universitas Terbuka. This ceremony was led by the Rector of UT, Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D. who delivered the remarks of the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (MENPORA RI), Ario Bimo Nandito Ariotedjo

Prof. Ojat expressed in his remarks that the commemoration of the Youth Pledge Day of this year collides with the transition of the new government which orchestrates the next steps of Indonesia in actualizing the targets of mid-term developments as a base for reaching the main target of the long-term development for 2045, which is the forming of golden Indonesia that embodies the advancement and increasing welfare, as well as a stronger contribution in global level.

This momentum is a huge chance for Indonesia to increase its focus on the agenda of youth development as a crucial part in Indonesia’s development, one of which being able to actively participate in various sectors of National Development and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations as a global agenda. On the other hand, Indonesian youth still need empowerment services to build on unleashed potential and turn it into power in leadership, pioneership, and entrepreneurship, in which the implementations need to be gradually increased in different sectors and levels. It is hoped that the youth can give their best contribution in Indonesia’s national Development, as the future are in their hands.

The result of this achievement is visible from the Youth Development Index (IPP). As an indicator of youth quality in 2024, the IPP sits at 56.33%. This definitely needs to be improved as means to fulfill the potential and youth advantages on a massive scale throughout Indonesia. Every stakeholder including higher education institutions need to move with synergy, simultaneously, and holistically to build youth ecosystems that are innovative and supporting the growth of youth with advancements, national character, and competitiveness.

To further increase and develop the element of youth, it’s appropriate to bring up the theme of “Advancing with Great Indonesia”. This theme delivers the message to put in the steps towards a great, massive, and peaceful Indonesia. The commemoration of the Youth Pledge is a reminder to support the younger generation in reaching golden Indonesia and ensure the increase of social welfare with good spirit and efforts that are collaborative, simultaneous, synchronized, and coordinative on central and regional level.
