Bengkulu, September 30, 2025 – A total of 689 students from Universitas Terbuka (UT) Bengkulu were officially conferred their undergraduate degrees in a graduation ceremony held on Tuesday morning. This solemn procession serves as tangible proof that open education can provide quality learning opportunities without the limits of space and time.
The presence of the Acting Vice Rector for Finance, Resources, and General Affairs of UT, Adrian Sutawijaya, affirmed UT’s commitment to mentoring and ensuring the quality of graduates in every region. “UT is committed to maintaining quality so that our graduates can compete in the job market or continue their education to a higher level,” he said.
Among the hundreds of students graduating, several names recorded impressive academic achievements. Hasni Syaqira Rahayu, a student from Rejang Lebong Regency in the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD), achieved the highest GPA of 3.94. Meanwhile, Azizah Muhtadia Billah from the Management Study Program scored a GPA of 3.51, Sesi Andriani from Law obtained a GPA of 3.67, and Agam from Information Systems achieved a GPA of 3.76. These achievements demonstrate that the flexibility of learning at UT does not diminish its academic quality standards.
This year’s UT Bengkulu graduation was also packaged with a series of inspiring activities. The day before, a national seminar was held titled “Achieving Success in the Digital Era: Academic Synergy in Entrepreneurship for a Brilliant Future.” Through this forum, students were encouraged to build an entrepreneurial mindset and innovation to be able to create a real impact on society.
The Chairman of the UT Bengkulu Alumni Association, Brawijoyo, in his speech, expressed the hope that the graduates would remain humble, uphold the good name of their alma mater, and dedicate their knowledge to their respective regions. “UT alumni are already widespread; now is the time for the young generation to contribute tangibly,” he said enthusiastically.
For more than three decades, UT has consistently been a pioneer of distance education in Indonesia. With a flexible learning system, UT reaches those who have difficulty accessing conventional education, ranging from remote areas, workers, to housewives. The presence of UT in Bengkulu is part of the effort to reduce the gap in access to higher education while strengthening human resources in the region.
This graduation moment is not only a formal confirmation of degrees but also a manifestation of UT’s contribution to the sustainable development agenda. By providing Quality Education (SDG 4) that is open to all circles, UT plays an active role in supporting this goal. On the other hand, graduates equipped with relevant skills and an entrepreneurial spirit strengthen SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
As a university that continues to transform, UT proves that innovation and inclusivity are key to producing a generation that is not only knowledgeable but also ready to compete on the global stage. This year’s UT Bengkulu graduation is a reminder that the dream of pursuing higher education is no longer just a hope but a reality that can be achieved by anyone.
