UT Jayapura Student Chosen as A Delegate in Singapore-Indonesia Youth Leaders Program 2025

Jayapura, June 23, 2025 – Pride and joy surrounds Universitas Terbuka (UT) Jayapura as one of their students, Jerry Oliver Simunapendi, was chosen as a Delegate of Central Papua in the Singapore-Indonesia Youth Leaders Program (SIYLP) 2025. The student of the English Literature with Translation Specialization study program is part of the chosen youth in representing Indonesia in one of the most prestigious youth programs in Southeast Asia.

The awarding of Jerry is not merely a coincidence, but is a result of hard work and dedication throughout time. Jerry is known to be active in social and youth activities in Central Papua, and has a distinct interest in cross-cultural community and social issues. Through the tight selection, he proved how students from Open and Distance Learning (ODL) systems can perform internationally.

“This is a rare chance for me and I’m very grateful to bring the name of UT and Central Papua to the international stage. Hopefully, this experience can be shared with my fellow youths in my region.” Jerry said.

SIYLP is a program collaboration between the Indonesian and Singaporean government aiming to strengthen the leadership network between youths of both countries. This program is not competitive, but it’s a platform of dialogues, perspective trade, and development of cross-cultural projects. Jerry’s participation is a real proof how UT’s open education system could shape leaders competing in the global stage.

This achievement is an emphasis that geographical location is not a barrier from reaching dreams and contributing. Form the land of Papua, Jerry proves that the spirit of learning and active participation in social issues can pave the way to the international stage. UT Jayapura appreciates this achievement as an inspiration for students who are willing to exceed their limits.

Congratulations to Jerry Oliver Simunapedi. This chapter of the journey is hoped to be the beginning of a broader contribution, and for more UT Students to dare to inspire, from anywhere, for the world.
