Rising Spirits From The East, UT Ternate Commemorates 117th Awakening Day

Ternate, May 20, 2025 – In commemoration of the 117th National Awakening Day (Harkitnas), Universitas Terbuka (UT) Ternate held a flag ceremony on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. Located in the courtyard of the UT Ternate office, this ceremony symbolized UT’s commitment to fostering the spirit of nationalism, unity, and national progress.

This year’s Harkitnas carried the theme “Rising Together, Realizing a Strong Indonesia,” a national call to strengthen solidarity, resilience, and collaboration among all elements of the nation amidst increasingly complex contemporary challenges.

The ceremony was attended by all UT Ternate staff and led directly by the Director of UT Ternate, Dr. Muhlis Hafel, M.Si.

In his speech, Dr. Muhlis Hafel, M.Si., in accordance with the mandate from Komdigi (Ministry of Communication and Digital), conveyed, “Indeed, the strongest awakening is an awakening that grows slowly, rooted in humanitarian values and bearing fruit in justice and shared prosperity.”

The ceremony proceeded solemnly, safely, and orderly until its conclusion. This event also served as a reminder of the birth of Budi Utomo in 1908, which marked the beginning of Indonesia’s national consciousness.

As an open higher education institution, UT Ternate remains committed to being part of Indonesia’s awakening by expanding access to equitable and quality education throughout the country. Therefore, the momentum of Harkitnas is not just about remembering history, but also a reflection on our contributions to building a resilient, intelligent, and inclusive Indonesia through education.

Happy 117th National Awakening Day.
