Heading Toward Four Decades, UT Collaborates with Pemkab Nagekeo and Pemkab Pulau Taliabu to Provide Higher Education Access

Universitas Terbuka (UT) continues to establish partnerships and synergy with various institutions to meet the requirements and to enhance institutional quality. In line with this, UT signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandums of Agreement (Moa) with Pemkab Nagekeo and Pemkab Pulau Taliabu.

The MoU and MoA signing event took place on Thursday, July 17, 2024, at the Auditorium of the Kualitas Building, 3rd Floor, Universitas Terbuka, Tangerang Selatan. The event was attended by the Rector of Universitas Terbuka, Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D., the Vice-Rector for Research, Partnership, Innovation, and Business, Rahmat Budiman, M.Hum., Ph. D., Acting Regent of Nagekeo, Raymundus Nggajo, ST., M.Si., Head of DPRD Kabupaten Nagekeo, Regent of Pulau Taliabu, H. Aliong Mus, S.T., along with the leadership teams from Universitas Terbuka and each Pemkab Office.

The event continued with the reading of abstracts followed by the signing of the first MoU document between UT, represented by the Rector of UT, and the Nagekeo Regency Government, represented by the Acting Regent of Nagekeo, concerning the implementation of education, research, and community service in Nagekeo Regency. The second signing involved the MoU and MoA between UT, represented by the Rector of UT, and Pemkab Pulau Taliabu, represented by the Regent of Pulau Taliabu, concerning the enhancement of the quality of higher education and human resources. Additionally, the MoA was signed between UT Ternate, represented by the Director of UT Ternate, M. Tahir Karespina, S.Sos., M.Si., and Pemkab Pulau Taliabu, represented by the Regional Secretary of Pemkab Pulau Taliabu, Dr. Salim Ganiru, regarding the improvement of government personnel competencies and institutional development.

In his speech, the Rector referenced “Life Begins at 40,” signifying that UT, at its 40th anniversary, is progressing rapidly toward achieving its vision and mission. He highlighted that 40 years ago, UT was given a challenging mandate by the government to provide equal and affordable higher education opportunities, both economically and geographically, to people across Indonesia. With its status as a State University with Legal Entity (PTN-BH) and A-level institutional accreditation, along with international accreditation, UT has become a flexible higher education solution for Indonesians from Sabang to Merauke, regardless of age, background, or profession.

Mr. Raymundus Nggajo, ST., M.Si., in his speech, expressed confidence that UT contributes to realizing Indonesia Emas 2045 by producing quality human resources through its graduates. He noted that UT’s presence significantly supports the development of human resources in Nagekeo Regency.

Mr. H. Aliong Mus, S.T., in his address, appreciated UT for providing opportunities for the people of Pulau Taliabu to pursue higher education. He even expressed his enthusiasm for continuing his master education at UT, stating that UT offers a solution by providing access to higher education to develop human resources and advance particular regions with slow progress. He hoped that UT would become the first university on Pulau Taliabu and open more UT’s Regional Office to expand its cover.

The event concluded with a group photo of all participants. It is hoped that this collaboration will result in positive synergy between the educational and governmental sectors, providing significant benefits and impacts not only for students but also for institutions and society thoroughly.
