Strategic Pricing for Online Course Business Development – The 28th Cyber Education Forum ICE-I

The Indonesian Cyber Education Institute (ICE-I) continues to uphold its commitment to organizing forums on interesting topics related to online learning, this time with the 28th Cyber Education Forum (CEF) with the theme “Strategic Pricing for Online Course Business Development.” The forum was held on March 26, 2024, via Zoom Meeting and YouTube Live, and over 500 participants attended.

The forum was moderated by Ami Hibatul Jameel, S.Pd., M.A. from ICE-I, and opened by the Manager of Partnership Development and Certification at ICE-I, Drs. Hasanuddin, M.Si. In addition, CEF once again brought in quality speakers who are experts in their fields, namely Aileen Kate A. Papas, Vice President for Finance and Controller of Mapua Malayan Colleges Laguna, and Dr. Ira Geraldina, S.E., Ak., M.S.Ak.,CA., lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business.

In his opening remarks, Drs. Hasanuddin, M.Si. emphasized the importance of this forum, stating that every institution offering online learning must strategically consider the pricing they offer to the audience to maximize the number of enthusiasts for that learning.

Subsequently, the forum continued with the presentation of material by Aileen Kate A. Papas, Vice President for Finance and Controller of Mapua Malayan Colleges Laguna. According to her, strategic pricing for online learning businesses has four main pillars as consideration aspects. Objectives include the goals of the learning, such as profit-making or as a form of corporate social responsibility, Value encompasses qualitative aspects in the form of benefits that participants can derive, as well as quantitative aspects such as platform accessibility, Market represents the target audience for the learning, and Competition includes pricing by competitors.

Afterwards, Dr. Ira Geraldina, S.E., Ak., M.S.Ak.,CA., from FEB UT, presented a case study related to online course pricing. In the case study, it was concluded that excessively high prices reduce affordability, requiring providers to lower prices to increase sales. On the other hand, prices that are too low will diminish the value of the offered materials.

After both speakers provided their insights and materials on the topic, the 28th CEF event was concluded with a question-and-answer session and the presentation of digital certificates to the speakers. In essence, UT and ICE-I always play a role in standardizing digital learning as pioneers of Distance Education in Indonesia. UT has been committed to maintaining its academic standards and quality for 39 years since its establishment.
