Expanding Global Footprint, UT Signed Strategic Collaboration with PPI Dunia and SALUT Turkiye

Bursa, Turkiye (September 9, 2025) – Universitas Terbuka (UT) continues to strengthen its commitment to the internationalization of Indonesian higher education by forging strategic collaborations with the Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia (PPI) Dunia (Indonesian Student Association Worldwide) and SALUT Turkiye. Two important documents were signed on this occasion: a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UT and PPI Dunia, and a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) between UT Foreign Services and SALUT Turkiye.

The signing was held as part of the 17th PPI Dunia International Symposium, which took place from September 9–12, 2025, in Bursa, Turkiye. The event also served as the venue for the change of leadership for the 2025–2026 term of PPI Dunia and was attended by Indonesian students from various countries, academics, and government officials.

Through this collaboration, UT strengthens its partnership in education, research, and capacity development for Indonesian students abroad. On the other hand, the partnership with SALUT Turkiye is aimed at strengthening UT’s distance education services, especially for students in the European and Middle Eastern regions.

The signing of the MoU and PKS was attended directly by the Rector of UT, Prof. Dr. Ali Muktiyanto, S.E., M.Si., as well as the Vice-Rector for Information Systems and Student Affairs, Prof. Paken Pandiangan, S.Si., M.Si. In addition, UT also conducted institutional cooperation exploratory talks with Bursa Uludag University to expand synergy in implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which includes education, research, and community service.

This international cooperation initiative has a strong relevance to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. UT is committed to providing inclusive and flexible access to higher education for all Indonesian citizens, without being limited by space and time, while also building impactful global collaborations.

For Universitas Terbuka, this cooperation has a direct impact on expanding its global network, increasing institutional competitiveness, and opening up opportunities for international-scale academic and research collaboration. Meanwhile, for Indonesians abroad, especially students, this partnership provides wider access to affordable and high-quality higher education, strengthening their capacity to contribute positively on the global stage, as well as when they return to their homeland.

The Rector of UT, Prof. Dr. Ali Muktiyanto, stated that this collaboration is a strategic step in realizing UT’s vision as a world-class Open and Distance Higher Education (PTTJJ) institution. “UT is here to provide access to education without the limits of space and time. This synergy not only expands our network but also strengthens UT’s position as a strategic partner in producing excellent Indonesian generations on the global stage,” he said.

Through its participation in international forums like the PPI Dunia Symposium, UT proves its commitment to providing fair, inclusive, and sustainable higher education, in line with the goal of building a lifelong learning society.
