Regional Scholarships Now Open! UT Ternate Linked Up With Pemkab Kaltem

Weda, May 28, 2025 – Universitas Terbuka (UT) Ternate continues to demonstrate its commitment to expanding access to higher education through a series of promotional activities in Central Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province. These activities, held from May 24 to May 27, 2025, are a concrete follow-up to the Decree of the Regent of Central Halmahera, Ir. H. Ikram Sangaji, M.Si, regarding a scholarship program for all residents holding Central Halmahera ID cards and the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Central Halmahera Regency Government and UT Ternate. 

The UT promotional activities were conducted at several strategic locations: 

  • Wairoro District, led by the District Head, Bambang, M.Si. 
  • Weda Kota Weda District, specifically at the Weda District Office, coordinated by the District Head, Yasri, S.Pd. 
  • Central Halmahera Regent’s Office, specifically at the Public Order Police Unit (Satpol PP) Office, together with the Head of Satpol PP, Yanto, M.Si. 
  • SMP Negeri 25 Kota Weda, led by the School Principal, Ms. Wahyuni, S.Pd. 
  • Surrounding areas in Weda City 

The Director of UT Ternate, Dr. Muhlis Hafel, M.Si., directly led these activities, accompanied by the Head of Administration and Marketing UT Ternate, Iwan Setiyawan Prambudi, S.Kom., M.M., and M. Fadli, M.Si., as the Head of the UT Ternate Marketing Team. 

These UT promotional activities targeted various community segments, including village officials, teachers, civil servants (ASN), and the general public, with an emphasis on UT’s flagship programs such as: 

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Program for village officials who wish to pursue Bachelor’s (S1) and Master’s (S2) degrees. 
  • Specific information for junior high school teachers interested in continuing their studies to a Master’s (S2) in Education. 
  • Explanation of UT’s flexible learning system, affordable costs, and support for online and printed modules. 

At SMPN 25 Kota Weda, this activity was an important moment for teachers to receive direct information regarding opportunities to pursue master’s degrees (S2) in education. Ms. Wahyuni, S.Pd., the school principal, welcomed UT Ternate’s presence and hoped this collaboration would improve the quality of teacher resources in Central Halmahera. 

Meanwhile, at the Weda District Office, the UT Ternate team dialogued with village government officials who are the primary target of the RPL program. High enthusiasm was shown by participants, especially in embracing the opportunity to obtain higher education without having to leave their duties in the field. 

Additionally, at the Satpol PP Office, UT Ternate presented opportunities for ASN and Satpol PP staff to pursue flexible online higher education. The Head of Satpol PP, Yanto, M.Si., expressed full support for this program and hoped that Satpol PP personnel would maximize their use of scholarship opportunities. 

As a final part of these activities, verification and coordination were also carried out with SALUT (UT Service Center) Fagogoru in Weda City. This visit aimed to strengthen synergy in academic services and prospective student registration. Verification was conducted together with the Head of SALUT Fagogoru, Fadli Sangaji, S.IP. 

The Director of UT Ternate, Dr. Muhlis Hafel, M.Si., expressed high appreciation to the Regent of Central Halmahera for the scholarship initiative and the strategic cooperation established with Universitas Terbuka. 

“This activity is not just promotion, but a tangible manifestation of our mission to open wide, equitable, and quality access to higher education. The commitment of the Central Halmahera Regency Government deserves appreciation for providing space for all segments of society to pursue higher education through regional scholarships,” said Dr. Muhlis. 

With this collaboration, UT Ternate is optimistic about a significant increase in Central Halmahera’s community participation in higher education, fostering superior and sustainable local human resource development.
