Universitas Terbuka (UT) has a huge number of students in Indonesia. Half a million UT students are not only spread across Indonesia but also abroad. To facilitate the students, UT has 39 UT Regional offices and 1 overseas service. Not only that, but the presence of UT Service Centers (Sentra Layanan UT, SALUT) and Study Groups (Kelompok Belajar – Pokjar) serve as means to disseminate information to prospective and current UT students.
On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Universitas Terbuka Pusat received a visit from UT Serang students who are part of the Labuan Serang Pokjar (Study Group) at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) Auditorium. The students consisted of 91 Elementary School Teacher Education (Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Dasar – PGSD) program students, 1 Management program student, and 1 Government Science program student.
The Head of UT Public Relations and Marketing Sub-Directorate, Dr. Maya Maria, S.E., M.M., warmly welcomed the visit from UT Serang students to the UT Central Office. In her speech, she expressed that UT is no longer underestimated, as it has become a State University of the Legal Agency (PTN-BH) on a par with other reputable state universities. She also explained that UT’s distance learning system is increasingly popular among Indonesian society, with the current number of students exceeding half a million. She added that through this visit, the students are expected to further take pride in their alma mater, study diligently to achieve better goals. In her closing remarks, she hoped that by visiting UT’s operational units such as the Laboratory Center, Library, and P2BAM, students would gain comprehensive knowledge about UT’s learning service details, providing them with invaluable and unforgettable experiences.
Head of the Labuan Serang Pokjar, Supriyadi, expressed gratitude for the warm reception of the visit from UT Serang students. He hoped that through this visit, students would be motivated to study even more passionately. It is recorded that 60% of the acceptance of Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK) in Serang comes from UT, particularly from the Labuan Serang Pokjar.
The event continued with presentations on the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program and Learning Services at UT by Uliya Khoirun Nisa, M.Pd., and Monika Handayani, M.Pd. In that good moment, both PGSD lecturers revealed that there is now admission for Pre-Service Teacher Education (PPG) at UT.
In addition, the students also went on a Head Office Tour (HOT) to the Central Library and Archives Unit, Multimedia Teaching Material Production Center, Learning Material Service Center, and UT Karunika Cooperative.
It is hoped that through this visit, students will gain a more comprehensive understanding of UT’s product knowledge and have an extraordinary experience about Universitas Terbuka.
