SINTANG – Universitas Terbuka (UT) once again demonstrated its commitment to providing flexible and quality higher education access. The Universitas Terbuka Service Center (SALUT) Sintang, known as SALUT MEKAR Sintang, held a New Student Orientation (OSMB) and Distance Learning Skills Training (PKBJJ) for 236 Diploma and Bachelor program students of the even semester 2024/2025. The event took place at SMKN 1 Sintang on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
OSMB and PKBJJ serve as the initial steps for UT students to understand the distance learning system implemented by the university. Different from conventional universities, UT adopts a flexible and independent learning concept, allowing anyone, including workers, housewives, and state officials, to continue their education without having to leave their primary responsibilities.
The event was also attended by the Secretary of the Council, Drs. Marchues Afen, M.Si., who expressed his appreciation for the learning enthusiasm of the new students.
“Education is the key to continuous development. UT provides opportunities for anyone to pursue higher education without the limitations of space and time,” he said.
The students in attendance came from various backgrounds, including those who already have work experience. One older participant enthusiastically stated:
“Finally learning again even though I’m old,” a statement that reflects how UT truly opens its doors to all ages and backgrounds.
Through OSMB and PKBJJ, students are equipped with independent learning strategies, effective time management, and an understanding of the UT academic system. This is important so that they can complete their studies well and achieve their desired degrees.
As a state university based on distance education, UT utilizes technology to provide access to lecture materials through modules, digital platforms, radio broadcasts, and educational television. So, lectures can be done anytime, anywhere!
With the support of the SALUT network in various regions, including SALUT MEKAR Sintang, UT continues to expand its reach and academic services throughout the country. This is concrete evidence that quality education can be present wherever the community is located.
UT is present not just to award degrees, but to shape lifelong learners.
Universitas Terbuka, a campus without borders, is here for everyone!
