The legal Entity of State University, or PTN-BH (Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Berbadan Hukum) is a status for State University as an Autonomous Legal Public Institution. In its adolescence, UT has grown and achieved the highest national recognition in the educational institution according to Government Regulation No.39 of 2022 regarding the Legal Entity of the State University of Universitas Terbuka. Furthermore, Universitas Terbuka has been enhancing its milestone to be a quality Online Distance Learning Institution, notably its post-transformation status to be PTN-BH.
Universitas Terbuka (UT) is going forward for another milestone as a quality Online Distance Learning Institution. It is realized by achieving an “A Grade” from the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education, or Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi (BAN-PT), in accordance with No. SK: 1282/SK/BAN PT/Ak/PT/VII/2024 on July 2, 2024, proofing UT’s commitment to enhancing its quality of academic and learning service.
Universitas Terbuka (UT) once again demonstrated its excellence by earning the “Excellent” accreditation from the Independent Accreditation Agency for Economics, Management, Business, and Accounting (LAMEMBA) for several master’s degree programs. This recognition is a concrete proof of the quality of education at UT, which not only focuses on accessibility and flexibility, but also on academic standards that meet the highest national criteria. With this excellent accreditation, UT further strengthens its position as an institution capable of providing high-quality distance education, in line with the evolving needs of both the professional and academic worlds.
Committing to the consistent and sustainable quality assurance system, UT has implemented the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) as of 2006.
This system covers two main areas, namely Academic Management and Distance Learning Management.
The former addresses the managerial system for developing academic products in faculties and other supporting units while the latter addresses the distance learning service system at the Regional Offices.

On August 25, 2020, Universitas Terbuka has received, for the four times, the Quality Certificate from International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE).
The ICDE assessment aims to build up the community trust, i.e., by ensuring that the quality standards and student services are sustainably well-maintained.
The certificate indicates that ICDE has recognized Universitas Terbuka for having achieved the global quality standards.
Universitas Terbuka (UT) achieved an international recognition from the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) by receiving the “Certificate of Accreditation” on October 3rd, 2024. This award emphasizes UT’s status as a higher education institution with international standards in Asia, as well as proof of UT’s advantage in innovation of open and distance learning technology. This achievement strengthens UT’s role as a pioneer in collaboration and knowledge sharing in Asia, while ensuring that students gain quality learning experience as per the global standards, thus solidifying UT as the leading institution of open and distsnce learning in the international stage
FIBAA is an international accreditation institution focused on accrediting higher education institutions in the fields of business, economics, management, law, and social sciences. Established in 1994, FIBAA’s track record and expertise are well-recognized. FIBAA is registered with The European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) and recognized by the Directorate General of Higher Education of Indonesian Ministry of Education, Research, and Technology (Direktorat Jenderal Pendidikan Tinggi Kemendikbudristek RI), in accordance with Decree No. 83/P/2020 regarding International Accreditation Institutions.
