Commemoration of 113th National Awakening Day

The National Awakening Day or Hari Kebangkitan Nasional (Harkitnas) is observed on the 20th day of May each year. This year is the commemoration of the 113th Harkitnas. The theme brought up in this year’s Harkitnas is “"Bangkit! Kita Bangsa yang Tangguh!" or “Awake! We Are Tenacious Nation!”. In order to commemorate the National Awakening Day or Harkitnas, Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemkominfo RI) performed a flag ceremony which was broadcast streaming through YouTube Kemkominfo TV.

Acting as the inspector of the Ceremony, Minister of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia, Johnny Gerard Plate. In his remarks, he conveyed the message that the observation of this year’s Harkitnas would strengthen the spirit of our resurrection as a tenacious and strong nation. With the theme of “Bangkit! Kita Bangsa yang Tangguh!” or “Awake! We Are Tenacious Nation!”, it reminds us to be always optimistic to cope with the future. We, as the successors of the nation, should get together to surmount and overcome all the challenges, obstacles, and issues.

He added, the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the people’s normality, such as physical interactions or face-to-face meeting in the real world which have now shifted to a virtual world by utilizing the advancement of communication technology. Subconsciously, Indonesia and the whole world have made the changes by utilizing the digital technology in order to perform our normal activities. It has changed our life from non-digital to digital. Harkitnas is an encouragement to enhance our awareness to deal with the issues faced by the people of Indonesia with no discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, race, and group. "Our dream is to step on the gas in order to accelerate our economics and advancement of civilization as a symbol of our national resurrection. Toward digital Indonesia, getting more digital would make us move forward even speedier," he expressed.
