Covid-19 Pandemic does not prevent Universitas Terbuka (UT) from maintaining close relationship all times with its media partners which was done through "Media Gathering", on Tuesday (2/3/2021). The uniqueness of the 2021 Media Gathering is that it was held virtually through Zoom Meeting platform and invited the media that work together with UT Headquarter or UT Pusat and Distance Learning Program Unit – Universitas Terbuka (UPBJJ-UT) four times, in terms of the number, as many as those invited last year. This year’s Media Gathering invited UT’s Rector, Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D., and Vice Rector for Institutional Development and Partnership Affairs, Rahmat Budiman, M.Hum., Ph.D., as well as convened, as the moderator, by the Director of the Director of the Center for Internasional Relations Development and Partnership, Dr. Sri Sediyaningsih, M.Si.
In his speech, Rahmat said that the ever-growing technology development has increasingly changed human life and social order, including mass media. Thanks to the roles of mass media, UT has become more popular among the public in general as the pioneer of Open and Distance Higher Education or Pendidikan Tinggi Terbuka dan Jarak Jauh (PTTJJ). Furthermore, UT has received a number of awards for its outstanding achievement in public relations and advertorials, including the 1st Champion of Jogja EduScienceTech held in February 2020 and moreover, at the end of 2020, UT was presented with 2020 Higher Education Public Relations Awards (Acara Anugerah Humas Dikti 2020), for the second best higher education institution in Social Media category and the second best higher education institution in Press Conference category for Higher Education Institutions as Public Service Agency or Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Badan Layanan Umum (PTN-BLU).
The 2021 Media Gathering was attended by high rank officials in UT Headquarter and UPBJJ, Editors-in-Chief along with the crews of UT’s Media Partners. The 2021 Media Gathering has the theme “UT Ready to Welcome Golden Indonesia 2045”. Entering the new normal and responding to the challenges facing the Golden Indonesia 2045, UT has continued and will continue to play its roles as open and distance university in Indonesia. The theme brought up is in accordance with the Visions of Golden Indonesia 2045, one of which is laid down in Long-Term Development Plan or Rencana Pembangunan Jangka Panjang (RPJP) for UT, which are Human Resources Capacity Building and Mastery of Science and Technology.
Ojat explained that in anticipating the Golden Indonesia 2045, UT has established a number of strategic options, namely that UT will immediately transform from a Higher Education Institution as Public Service Agency or Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Badan Layanan Umum (PTN-BLU) into a Higher Education Institution as an Incorporated Legal Entity or Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Badan Hukum (PTN-BH), UT will improve its academic services, in terms of both quality and quantity, UT itself synergizes and collaborates with others in developing internationally accredited study programs, UT always seeks to increase the number of its students, as well as improve its human resources capacity, both quantity and quality with UT’s more adaptive and agile organizational culture.
UT appreciates and thanks to the media crews for their continued roles as well as works as they become the UT’s means of information dissemination to the public. May the collaboration between UT and the media partners would be well maintained and hence, UT becomes more and more acknowledgeable to the general public of Indonesia and the world.
As of November 2020, UT has 311,028 active students who are spread across Indonesia and the world. UT has also established its headquarter office and 39 Offices of Distance Learning Program Unit – UT or Unit Program Belajar Jarak Jauh Universitas Terbuka (UPBJJ-UT) as well as Overseas Students Management Center or Pusat Pengelolaan Mahasiswa Luar Negeri.
