Innovating in Education, FKIP UT Holds ICIEP

Distance Education is more complex than a mere integration of technology in conventional classroom. The modes of teaching presentation seem evolved when more advanced technology were incorporated, as the main objective of higher education remains to be the necessity to provide quality instruction for students.

Faculty of Education and Pedagogy (FKIP) held an International Conference on Innovation in Education and Pedagogy (ICIEP) concerning “Innovative Digital Technology for Quality Education 4.0” at Hotel Atria Serpong Gading, Tangerang Selatan (05/10/2019). The conference was officially opened by Indonesia Open University or Universitas Terbuka (UT) Rector, Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D, accompanied by Dean of the Faculty of Education and Pedagogy, as the Chairman of ICIEP Committee, Prof. Drs. Udan Kusmawan, M.A., Ph.D.

The event started with the performance of traditional dance Abimantrana and it was attended by all members of the Indonesian Association of Faculty of Education and Pedagogy Deans or Forum Komunikasi Dekan FKIP se-Indonesia. The education seminar is regularly held every year, and through ICIEP, it is expected new innovations are invented in The field of education. UT’s FKIP Dean, in his speech, said that UT was able to develop the education conference program in this year, it is the first international education conference held in collaboration with Research Synergy Foundation (RSF), the first Indonesian social corporation that develops the collaborative networks for researchers, lecturers, a, and practitioners.

In order to improve innovation in inovation in education and pedagogy, UT together with Research Synergy Foundation (RSF), chaired by Dr. Hendrati Dwi Mulyaningsih. With RSF, 111 papers have been selected which came from a number of universities and institutions, both national and international, including Mara University of Technology (Malaysia), Rajamangala University of Technology Tanyaburi (Thailand), De La Salle University (the Philippines), Islanders Education (Maldives), State Islamic University UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya, Institute of Education and Pedagogy IKIP PGRI Pontianak, University of Education Indonesia (Bandung), University of Al-Azhar Indonesia, State Islamic University UIN Ar-Raniry Aceh, University of Serambi Mekkah, Pelita Harapan University, Adhitama Institute of Technology (Surabaya), Surabaya State University, College of Education and Pedagogy STKIP Kusumanegara Jakarta, University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta, Institute of Pembina Rohani Islam IPRIJA Jakarta, Jakarta State University, University of Palangkaraya, University of Multimedia Nusantara Jakarta, State Polytechnics of Balikpapan, University of Muhammadiyah Prof Hamka UHAMKA Jakarta, University of Lambung Mangkurat Banjarmasin, University of Sebelas Maret Surakarta, Elementary School SD Negeri Sukamahi 03, and Foundation for Children Yayasan Anak Montessori Cahaya Dunia.

The seminar had a number of international speakers, such as Prof. Ruth Reynold (Education Expert and President of GERT Global Education Research and Teaching Team, Australia), Prof. Dr. Suminto A. Sayuti (Culture and Linguistics Expert from State University of Yogyakarta, Indonesia), Prof. Patricia S. Moyer-Packenham (Director of Mathematics Education and Leadership Program, Utah State University, the United States of America), dan Prof. Ahmad Rozelan Yunus (Faculty of Technology Management dan Technopreneurship Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, Malaysia) and moderated by Dra. Dewi A. Padmo P, M.A., Ph.D. (Head of the Center for Foreign Student Management-LPPMP).

As conveyed by one of the speaker in the seminar, Director of Mathematics Education and Leadership Program, Utah State University, Prof. Patricia S. Moyer-Packenham, students are very familiar with, so called technology. With the assistance of the applications currently existing, the students are able to understand the concepts of mathematics. UT Rector, Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D., said that the cutting-edge technology can no longer be separated from learning process.

UT Rector, Ojat Darojat concluded that one of the most important factors in successful integration of technology for quality education purposes is to integrate the academic planning and the sustainable development of high quality faculty by which technology, pedagogy, and instruction design support the learning process.
