Indonesia and Timor Leste have a very special relationship as both countries geographically share their land borders and therefore they have many similarities, in terms of social, culture, and religion. The official language spoken in Timor Leste is Tetun Portugese Language, and yet most Timor Leste population use Indonesian Language in their daily life.
In line the main mission of Indonesian Open University (UT) which provides the access and equal distribution of higher education for all Indonesian people, including those who live abroad, UT has established cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs under Memorandum of Understanding which was signed on 7 February 2012.
In order to develop distance learning, Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) visited Indonesia Open University (UT) at the Plenary Room Rectorate Building or Ruang Sidang Gedung Rektorat 1st Floor, Thursday (10/01/2019).

The School of Law, Social Science and Political Science or FHISIP, the Indonesia Open University or Universitas Terbuka held an International Conference, called Open Conference 2018 with the theme of Social Political Challenges in Industrial Revolution 4.0 at Universitas Terbuka Convention Center (UTCC), Pondok Cabe, Pamulang, Tangerang Selatan, on Thursday (15/11/2018).
The Indonesia Open University or Universitas Terbuka (UT) held a general lecture on “Online Collaborative Learning” at All-Purposes Building, or Gedung Serba Guna UT, by presenting Prof. Tristan E. Johnson, Northeastern University’s Professor as the resource speaker, Monday (12/11/2018).
While attending 32nd Conference of Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) from 24th to 26th October 2018 at Hotel Melia, Hanoi, Vietnam, Indonesia Open University (UT) received an invitation from Open University of Kaohsiung (OUK), Taiwan in order to collaborate in encouraging the cooperation in education, research and other relevant fields.
