The Mother’s Day in Indonesia was born out of the movement of the Indonesian people. In the national movement for the independence, the woman roles in Indonesia became an inseparable part to the long struggle of the nation in order to its gain independence. Woman involvement is proven by the First Woman Congress which was on 22 December 1928 in Yogyakarta corroborating the spirit and determination to support Indonesia independence.
Indonesia Open University or Universitas Terbuka organized the ceremony for commemorating the 90th Mother’s Day at Universitas Terbuka Convention Center (UTCC), Friday (21/12/2018). In this opportunity, the ceremony was attended by UT President, Prof. Ojat Darojat M.Bus, Ph.D., as the master of the ceremony, as well as the senior officials, officers, and employees of the UT Headquarter.
UT President appreciated the mothers’ roles and dedication in family who can create strong and quality personality. Mothers are always the most important figure for any individual person in his or her personal life, family, society, people and nation. Mother is the first person who can instill the values and norms that serve as the personal foundation for anyone. Without undermining the father’s roles, mother becomes the important figure for one’s success and accomplishment. Therefore, UT President advised us to always respect and admire our mother since the heaven is beneath her sole or surga ada di telapak kaki ibu.
