Approaching the Graduation Ceremony for Period I Region 3, UT Holds Seminar on Entrepreneurship in Era 4.0

Indonesia Open University or Universitas Terbuka (UT) held a Seminar for the Graduation Ceremony which is part of the serial graduation program for Period I Region 3 on Tuesday (27/11/2018). The seminar was on “Entrepreneurship for Educators in Indonesia 4.0 Era” which was officially opened by UT President, Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D., at Universitas Terbuka Convention Center (UTCC), Tangerang Selatan, Monday (26/11/2018). UT President said that he was proud of the graduate candidates who have successfully completed their university education at UT under distance learning system.

In his speech, UT President explained that UT has fostered as a modern university with 34 years of experience in providing open universities and distance-learning higher education programs, known as Pendidikan Tinggi Terbuka Jarak Jauh (PTTJJ). He hopes that UT will continue to take part in improving Gross Enrollment Rate (APK) for Indonesian people, and in addition, he also hopes that the number of the students will reach up to one million university students as targeted by Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Menristekdikti), Mohamad Nasir and at the same time, by maintaining the excellence and quality learning of the education at Indonesia Open University.

At some stage in the seminar on graduation ceremony, the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also done between UT President and the General Chairman of Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) Eddy Ganefo who were witnessed by the Dean of School of Pedagogy and Education Science, Prof. Drs. Udan Kusmawan, M.A., Ph.D., as well as, the exchange of MoUs between UT and Central Committee of Indonesia Kindergarten Teachers Association of the Teachers Association of the Republic of Indonesia, or Pengurus Pusat Ikatan Guru Taman Kanak-Kanak Indonesia – Persatuan Guru Republik Indonesia (PP IGTKI-PGRI) Hj. Farida Yusuf, M.Pd., which was signed on 6 August 2018. This MoU is concerning the Quality Improvement Program on Three Community Services by Higher Education Institutions.

The program continued with the seminar presented by the main speaker, Eddy Ganefo, and moderated by Dr. Maximus Gorky Sembiring, M.Sc. This era of industrial revolution 4.0 has presented us with numerous development and many rapid changes have been made which are supported by technology advancement. Eddy Ganefo said that the people have to be able to utilize the digital technology wisely and continue to boost productivity. Through digital technology, the people would be able to use the opportunity and advantage in promoting the products/services more easily, effectively and efficiently, as well as make online discussion forum among the businesspersons, and obtain more extensive access to information. In building the business, the people need to have strong motivation, make business plans and evaluate the business activities that have been done. In the future, he hopes that university would be able to develop the entrepreneurship courses in order to identify the potency of the university students.
