Rory McGreal is currently Associate Vice President Research at ICDE member institution Athabasca University, Canada, and holds the UNESCO/COL Chair in Open Educational Resources.
Previously he held the position of Executive Director at the bilingual distance learning network TeleEducation NB. In this capacity, Prof. McGreal’s team implemented the world’s first distance education website, a learning management system and the TeleCampus, a comprehensive learning object metadata database of online courses.
Prior to this, Prof. McGreal was a supervisor at Contact North, Canada where his team implemented distance learning sites in more than 100 community centres, schools, aboriginal centres, and other institutions in the remote province of Northern Ontario. He has also worked in the Middle East, Seychelles and Europe.
His present research interests include the use of Open Educational Resources, and standards in technology assisted learning, particularly in the development and application of learning objects.
